Re: Beretta Z28
Lots of progress on the beretta lately. Drive shaft installed. Trans fluid filled. Shifter installed. 160 degree thermostat installed. And eliminated some more un used emissions stuff and plugged it off.
Re: Beretta Z28
I ran another small section of test material to try and get a white carbon fiber look for the beretta parts. Pretty disappointed with the end result as the white cloth became very translucent when soaked with resin. However I was able to improve my vac bagging technique and feel I made improvements in my process even though I was let down by the material
Re: Beretta Z28
Could this be the one???!!!!! new 4 oz sample cloth to test !!!! Really digging the pattern and this cloth is really light compared to the last 16 oz innegra fiber I attempted to lay up.
Re: Beretta Z28
Definitely my best attempt yet. "White carbon fiber" anyone who knows about this build knows I've been obsessing with trying to make these one off parts for the beretta one step better by making an exposed white weave. As much as I am improving my process and my results I'm pretty convinced this material is just not letting me achieve the results I am after. It just wont pull into the deep corners and tight radius even with great vacuum. I just cant justify the cost of this material to have an imperfect result. I'm going to make traditional fiberglass parts for the beretta so I may continue making progress on the build
Re: Beretta Z28
Installed a set of shorter upper arms on the 4th gen beretta Z28 and can now achieve some much needed negative camber. Should be able to dial it in around -8 camber and hoping to achieve +8 caster. Gotta tweak it a lil more and then need to head to an alignment shop to finalize it. also switched to some 245 45 17 from the 275 45 17 for a more suitable tire profile and a little more clearance.
Huge shout out to Collin Byer for the tech tips on this one !!!!Re: Beretta Z28
Just finished egg crating the Z28 Beretta hood mold. This thing is almost ready to flip and pop the master part out. Then a lil block sanding and we will be ready make parts.
Re: Beretta Z28
Just finished installing this hydro handbrake
in the Z28 Beretta. Just gotta add fluid and bleed the system and we will be pullin this thing like its 2018 Re: Beretta Z28
Finished laying up the main section of the rear bumper the other day...... now working on crating the mold so I can flip it and work on the casting the sides of the bumper. These are some big molds.
Re: Beretta Z28
Awesome work, C&C aint got nothin' on you! I am kind of hoping you have intentions of selling some of those hoods to people to give them another option and make all the mold-work worthwhile, but I kind of hope your car stays a completely one-off too, not that ANYONE is likely to build what you have there, no matter how many similar body-panels you let them buy. Sorry the 'white fiber' isn't turning out how you want it, I must say that it looks pretty good from the shots you posted though. Is there any way to make a backing mold to help press the material into the corners? It has been a long time since I did any layup work, and we mostly dealt with flatter structural panels with Nomex honeycomb sandwiched in fiberglass and Aramid (Kevlar) fibers -not 'decorative' like you are shooting for. Alternatively, if your problems are primarily in the corners and sharp bends, could you do the matting in multiple pieces? It would be an absolute PITA to do, but if you used a small diameter metal rod or some-such to roll the edges around, and placed another sheet behind that and overlapped from behind, you might be able to piece something together for the outer layer and get the look you want...

Re: Beretta Z28
Yeah...for now I'm probably just gonna make fiberglass pannels.....lots of work to do...and testing before then...gotta prove the alignment before I get into the wide body panels
Re: Beretta Z28
Also got this 90° 4 inch to 3.5 inch elbow for the K&N cold air intake to kick it away from the tire at lock.

Re: Beretta Z28
Had to ditch the factory coolant overflow due to tire clearance issues. Was able to retro fit the factory recovery hoses and tube and plumb it into this aftermarket tank and relocate it under the header in front of the core support
