So I'm thinking about mounting my amp upside down under the rear shelf, rather than on the back of the fold-down rear seat which I'd really like to keep clear.  This brings up a couple of questions:  Has anyone here ever had heat issues by mounting an amp upside down?  Am I still okay to run the 6x9s back there when they'll be relatively close to the amp or could there be interference?

FYI my tint is 15% so the rear shelf won't be hit as hard by the sun.  Thanks for any thoughts on this

the heat wont come from the sun, the heat will come from inside the amp...thats why they say, dont mount upside down....because the heat will stay trapped inside....ive always been against this method....but thats just me....

You could make brackets for it so it'll  'float' under the rear deck.

Although I would never put my amp there since that area would get very minimal air flow.

That's how i mounted mine, and on hot sunny summer days it does shut down after a while (probably should add a fan to it).  it does do great with the trunk space though.

You could hide it in the spare tire compartment if you don't have a spare tire setup in there.  To make it work you'd need to make a 1/2" to 3/4" thick cover out of wood and mount it with the bracket idea.  Then add some slots in the top of the wood to allow for air recirc.  The spare tire area does stay cooler than the rest of the car most of the time.

Cool diagram, is that how you mounted yours?  I've needed my spare tire 3 times before, so I think I'll keep it.  Maybe mount it on the rear bumper for style, huh? You know, Dave Dulin had fans cooling his INDY's amps...I don't recall exactly how he did it, but if I remember right he drew air from the vents in the doorframes.

No, I mounted mine on the backside of the 60% seat.  That pic used MS paint to own you.

he most likely used computer fans...they are 12v....wire them up to either a switch, or to an accessory power wire and your good...

Would they handle 14.5V or whatever the charging system might run at, or is a 12V power supply a must?

more power = faster spinning they are extremely cheap too....

what ive come to find is 12volt electronics are faily flexible with how much power they get...ive heard of 12v fans being puched with only 5v of juice...now they didnt move fast, but still circulated air....opposite happens when you give them more power....

Thanks for the source, sounds like something I'll have to do.  Wish I still had all those fans sitting around

if your near a college area, best thing to do is keep your eyes open on the curbs...ive gotten so many things curb watching when I lived in philly...computer parts, couches...etc....

if your looking for something sooner, just go to radioshack...i know they sell thermaltake gear...im sure they even have their generic fans...

I ordered these.  I won't be installing them for a while, though, because my current project is big enough When I do maybe I'll post pictures.
