Minor miracle alert! Car went off to paint jail after almost 2 years of waiting for a spot. Nice to see it in some daylight. And get the room back! It's been sitting around almost untouched forever.

Race ramps worked awesome. I love the open center of the trailer too, makes it easy to strap the car down. It may come in handy as a "lift" if I need it, too.

...Just remember to check the hood to make sure it is latched tight when you pick her up. How much mold was tying the bottom of the car to the garage floor? I'm gonna need a weed-whacker to clear it out from under my old Plymouth by the time I get her engine done, and I even got some work done on it today!

Yeah, I've got a million things going on right now. But it's sure nice to have that car progressing without my time on it. Haha

So I guess I never updated this...but it came back home without paint on it. So I'll probably spray the damn thing myself. But progress is super slow cause there's not really a single part of body work that's babysitting-friendly.




So, I got another rear bumper eggcrate so I could add to the bottom and give some support to the lengthened fiberglass cover. And while I had it apart, I welded in some support to the center of the bumper. I hacked the hell out of it when I was 19 to fit the NHRA kill switch, but I'm figuring now I can use it as a jack point similar to what I did with the front. I can also run a 1/2in bolt and spacer to use a tow strap on the rear if needed. And I did come up with a plan for a rear hitch in case of Drag Week in the future (or even Power Tour with all the kiddo crap we gotta haul now). haha

Finished up the steel rear bumper mods. I added another mounting bolt just to make sure it was sturdy as a jack point.


I also took it out body shopping! I've been waiting 3 years for my buddy to do it...but I'm looking at other options. It's definitely pricier at actual shops - about double - but at this point...I'm sure I already have $25k in something I can't even drive. So what's a few more grand to actually get it DONE?

Getting it in and out of the garage was a hell of a lot easier this time. Rather than the floppy chain-around-the-winch deal my dad came up with last time, I drilled a hole in the winch hitch and used a stud in the floor anchor and nut to mount the winch tight to the floor. I used an eyelet in the other floor anchor with a snatch block to keep the weight spread across both anchors. Worked perfect.



Drove about 80 miles to 4 shops to get quotes. One was "nope, too busy". Two were around 6,000 and one was 15,000.

Maybe you could build a cheap visqueen booth in your garage and hire a painter to come out and shoot it. Only half days work for them.
I wanna shoot some of my cars myself but I haven’t sprayed in years so I’ll start out small panel painting fenders doors and stuff make my mistakes early hopefully. Easier to respray a fender than a shell you know.

The physical painting I could do a decent job of myself. I've painted a car before and I've run a paint gun at work at least multiple times a month for years and years. It's the body work that I'm not confident in. Doesn't matter how well you lay the paint if the surface isn't straight.

This is true. That’s one of the reasons I painted my Impala yellow. Its too blinding in full sun to see defects.

Well, got distracted by a house hunt and some upgrades to our place. But I made it a 2021 resolution to get more done on the Camaro. The painter dude who was going to do it in October kinda went cold...so I'm back at it and will probably lay the paint myself - eventually.

I bought fiberglass flares from Danko and that was an ordeal...but I finally got them. They need some fitment work. Aftermarket flares with an aftermarket nose and modified wheel lips aren't a great combo. I'm going to need to reshape the style line to match up with the modified fender lip, both front and rear. So I used the ol' wax on masking tape trick to add some duraglas to the back of the flare (just like I did to get the spoiler and glass rear bumper fitment really good).




While I was at it I worked on the nose to fender fitment and got that looking really good. I'll have to do the same all the way across the hood to nose also. But before I can do that, I need to cut the corners of the hood off and re-fiberglass them lower - the corners are pretty damn high and the center and turn signal recesses are pretty good. That is at least one thing I got from the last possible painter...some expert fiberglass advice.


I also got my first prototype of the license plate/kill switch/reverse light bracket done. Needs some tweaking, but it's close. I'm gonna shave the back of the LED bar down a bit too, so I can recess the whole thing about a half inch.

Fiberglass fitment sucks...but at least you can fit it. The ancient urethane on these cars was trash.

I'm glad you've been able to find time to progress, this is an awesome project.

Made some more progress on the Camaro. Still needs more, and I keep getting distracted. But it will get there.
