Exterior window trim?

Does anyone have any nice window trim? I'm looking a few cars that all have the cracking window trim surround on the doors/windows.

no... If you ask companies they say there isn't enough demand to bother making them.

sounds like you are asking about " dew strips", there are multiple posts about them over the past 10 years... all saying, they are getting much harder to find in workable shape. there are a few members here that do have some (or had some), just have to wait for someone to chime in, and provide photos maybe... (maybe even video to prove they are pliable!)

No sounds like he's asking about the trim that goes up and around the top of the window frame... but the same deal applies... Nothing available. We probably have one of a few of the hardest vehicles to restore ever... No one wants to make parts for it, not even repop companies.

Yeah, seems to be the case - Back when I was hot-n-heavy into Berettas in 99-04 they seemed like they were everywhere, but it's amazing how the parts are so scarce nowadays. Every single car I've looked at recently has needed these dew strips - 10 years ago, aside from some weather-cracked parts, I'd never seen a car with horrible ones - Now it seems like they're not only cracked but showing the metal through them...

It may be worth a call to 1AAuto - They've been really good to the thirdgen (82-92) F-body scene in reproducing some of the harder to find parts - including the "drip rails" for the T-Top cars. No one made 'em before and everybody seemed to need them. Tony @ 1AAuto and his guys were really good to deal with to get the parts into production.

Be my guest, I attempted this and got shown the door multiple times due to the size of our member base... Only one company said they would make something if we fully designed it with drawings and all specs on which rubber to use and paid for the mold which is around 5k min... plus they would have to produce at least 100 parts. It was a proto-type company that usually works with big auto manufactures and not a little guy so that's another odd thing we would have to work around.

We need to find out who made these peices for GM and try to locate their tooling, assuming its not scrapped already. It would be a lot cheaper than getting a new mold made.

But then again theres not enough people interested to make a production run so nobody will want to touch that job anyway.

guaranteed the tooling is scrapped... if not it's been purchased by an aftermarket company and we have no idea who and they don't care to even reproduce the part. And yeah there will never be enough people to make a production run...

If tooling is destroyed and we'll "never have enough for a production run" then where do we (as the solitary group keeping these cars running) go from there? We can't continue to source from the junkyards forever, especially considering the rarity of good parts already. There has to be an alternative.......

I inquired to Year One asking what would be needed for our community to start getting the door panels re-made. They ignored me completely (except to put me on the mailing list). Some company out there has to be willing to re-produce parts for our cars.

I've been looking into cutting what we currently have off and layering on a new part that replaces only the visible section of dew strip... Granted this repair is only going to work for those who have the actual dew strip as the issue and will not fix the outer molding plastic cover from pealing away from the metal structure...

And Rod, I know how you feel, BUT unfortunately with the way people do business these days it all comes down to money and our group just can't get anyone money so we get ignored. The other problem is our member base.... Its not made up of enough people who have the money to just dump into restoration. There are a good number of members but some are too young to be able to think about spending a bunch of money for such a little item so the able group dwindles down further.
