i need help with a viberation

Post by ajsberetta »

i have a 92 beretta 3.1v6. i have a viberation above 30mph and it gets worse the faster i go. i dont feel it as much as i hear it. it viberates the floor board the most. when i turn right at any speed above 30mph it gets louder and stronger but when i turn left at any speed above 30 it gets less. it also has a slight knock sound when i turn right at speed but not everytime, to me is sounds like something loose. the work i have done before this all had started is new hub assemblys new disks and pads. 2 new tires up front ballanced and rotated the tires(i had the tires ballanced again) new cv axels and rear springs and shocks also 2 motor mounts i have not done the tranny mount yet. it sounds like its coming from the drivers side font tire. the sound is like a lifted truck with super swampers. i have taken the drivers side apart and looked at the hub to see if it went bad it has no play and turns smooth. iv noticed that my struts creek when it gets hot i dont know if that helps. can any one give me any help? can any of the new parts be bad? is it safe to drive, iv been driving with it for like 5 months now. thanks guys for any help

could just be bad tires. tires separating or throwing a belt. but if you had them balanced they should have noticed that.... just a thought, sorry really didnt help

I had to take my car back to NTB to get them to rebalance one of my tires. They didn't get it right the first time. Also I had to watch to see if there was a bad belt. The guy doing the work was not looking for that.
Does it feel like the tire is jumping up and down? If not it could be the ball joint. Grab the tire by sides and rock it side to side and see if there is any play. Also try to push on the fender to rock the car. These tests only find something if it's real bad. It is best to take it into a shop and have them check it.
I also think it is the tire though.

It could be the ball joint or the tie rod end. The tie rod end is much more easy to change. You can do it yourself and save some money if you can get a pickle fork. If you don't know someone that has one, try to see if you can rent one from a auto parts store. It costs alot of money to have the ball joint changed. If you are going to change the tie rod ends I can give you some tips, but you'll still need to have an alignment. Turn the wheel to lock(or close to it) so you can see the tie rod end and if it moves(or makes noise) when you rock the tire then it's bad. You may need someone to help so you can watch.
Did the sound come from up top or down low?

if there is noise when yanking on the sides its usually a tie rod. If there is noise when yanking on the top and bottom its usually the ball joint.

I think I may have founf the problem. I have a clunk when I turn the wheel from side to side, so i looked at the top of the strut mount and when the wheel is turned at some point the top strut mount nut like pops and hits the side of the hole. so i think my strut mount is shot

found and fixed the problem. just because the part is new doesnt mean its a good part the hub bearing was the problem so i put in another hub and it fixed it. I raised the front of the car off the ground and put it in drive and watched the tire and it went round but it wobbled.

i did not have a pickel fork to remove the ball joint so i could get the cv axel out to replace it. the seal that is there is about a year old. I lubed the hell out of it . i do have a new seal to put on once i get the chance to take it all apart again.

My stock wheel bearings did not have seals.
I tried putting one in once, and the wheel bearing barely fit, started tightening it down, and it was really getting wedged in there. Then the bearing wouldn't turn.. Pulled it out, yanked out the seal and threw it in there like the factory was...........

Do they expect you to bore out the knuckles or something to use the seals???
