Re: NC road trip to pick up my pickup
I just talked with the salvage yard again yesterday and I'm losing any faith in them. Trans was listed at $550 online. Called them and they said with the core and everything I needed it would be $800. Sweet! After 2 weeks of poor communication and just plain apathy, they now tell me it will be $1000 for everything and the clutch hydraulics are blown. So we're talking at least $1500 with a good clutch & new hydraulics, and a place that I have zero faith in if there are any problems. They don't seem interested in taking my money, I can only imagine what it would be like if I needed some kind of refund.
So I'm thinking a pro-built 4L60E might be a better option. As much as I hate autos, the NV4500s are hard to find, and the place I was looking at has the only one in the state according to car-part.com. On the bright side, the install will be much quicker, and I've got enough crap to do without adding another big project.

It's dead. The 4L60E is toast, no 3rd or 4th at all.
So I cleared a path for the Camaro out of the garage. 400hp daily driver again! woohoo!

Don't really even need a shift kit after the pinless billet accumulator pistons and billet servos.

Re: NC road trip to pick up my pickup
I'm having a guy In FL do it who specializes in 4L60Es and only 4L60Es. He gave me a parts list of the the upgrades. "Beast" sunshell, servos, clutches, yadda yadda. I'm not big on automatic lingo. haha

So, maybe when you actually have a built auto you may come to respect them a bit more...

Maybe. I remember I did like driving your built 4t60e in '07? a lot more than my stock pos slushbox. haha Even back then you had forgotten how bad stock sucks.3X00-Modified wrote:So, maybe when you actually have a built auto you may come to respect them a bit more...
Since I live & work in town I drove the truck to work anyway since the Camaro isn't ready until tonight. It makes more noise in only 1-2 gears! About 2500rpm in 2nd at 30.

Re: NC road trip to pick up my pickup
I decided to help out the engine a little since I'm going to have the truck immobilized anyway. I'm definitely doing long-tube headers and a new high-flow cat to meet up to the rest of the 3" exhaust I put on a couple years ago. I'm also doing a cam (probably a roller as soon as I can get a look at the lifter valley to be sure it's machined for the roller spider, etc.) and maybe even heads & intake.
That's where the big money would have to be spent, but it might also be one of the biggest gains. Throwing the Vortecs on the truck and dropping the coin for some AFR 195s for the Camaro is awful tempting. And with Vortecs and the roller cam I'm looking at it would be about 400ftlbs of torque at 2500rpm...should be great for hauling.

Re: NC road trip to pick up my pickup
I dunno Cliff, those AFR 195s are tons better than the ETec 200s from what I've read. The price would have to be really good to make it worth it...

Re: NC road trip to pick up my pickup
Finally got the truck in the garage late last night after some OT. I did a compression test and only got 120, 120, 125, 125, 130, 130, 130, 135psi. It seems a little low to me but there are no hellish differences from cyl to cyl. I hope to have it all torn down this weekend.

Re: NC road trip to pick up my pickup
130-140 isn't that low.. What are you tearing apart to start off? just the trans? or are you digging in to the motor too.
