Well, I got the car home.  Not without incident though.  Even the long Isuzu axle was kinda short and didn't lock into the trans right...  Try re-seating it on the side of I-94 near US131...  Not fun

I'm going to have to double check the drivetrain alignment and possibly have the frame checked just to make sure everything is right before I invest in different axles.

Oh, that old one was REALLY messed.  The bracket holding the intermediate shaft to the block was broken too.. I'll have to get some pics of it.  It's still sitting in the trunk of the car.

I thought you had new ones a long time ago. Good pics on that link. Hope you are working inside!

I used a long (4-cyl) one to get the car home, but it still was too short.  Not to mention it doesn't lock into the torsen so it wasn't really being held in there at all.

I did a test fit with the axle on the passenger side which was the issue.  It was nearly ALL the way compressed when installed.  Which was the exact opposite with the other ones!  That's probably about a good inch of difference.

I do have some other things up my sleeve that go hand in hand with the axles.  (the pic in my sig is a hint to it).

I guess that you took it easy on the way home? Wow, I didn't think you could do that. I saw the new sig pic, but still don't know what it is.

I bought all of them separate.  Probably paid about $500 or so for the set.  They're not perfect either.  Some curb marks and/or chips.  But they don't even weigh 17 pounds.

Well, they look good and low weight is a very good thing. How are the new axles working?

I'm waiting to get a new intermediate shaft assembly.  However I did size it up under the car and it is significantly better.

What trans are you running? I'm thinking about a 3400 swap and I just want to know if I'm going to run into the same trouble.

A stock 282.  Well, this one is actually a 1994 model, but it's the same dimensions.

Something might just be weird with my car? or the 3400 just might lay down more torque?

Have you found an intermediate shaft yet Cliff? Let me know soon; I have a few weeks that I can scour the junk yards before we head up for NAIAS.
