i like the nostalgic fact of it... i mean the 3400 swap would make a ton more power but how many 2.8 do you see around that still run good and can keep up...

Don't rush it... you'll just pay more later.

Cause no one else has done it yet with a 2.8? lol

With Eric on that one. Why mess around with an older designed engine, unless its your budget that is making the decision.... Seriously though, if it were me, I would save up, then do it the right way once and with a later model of beretta.... say 96.

Edit:

But its your car. Most of us are just talking from experience, having been there and done that. Not me of course. Still running OEM engine setup on this car. lol

They also haven't boosted 2.8's because the payoff of the investment just isn't worth it, and they DON'T keep up... that's the point, it's just not worth it.

right i know i just think it would be cool to see a boosted 2.8... i have been looking at a 3400 swap with a 5 speed.. right now my car is the 3 speed auto.. i appreciate everything that you guys have said.. and yes my budget is kinda tight thats why i wanted to keep the older motor cause i have 3 3.1L and 2 2.8s sitting at the house right now.... but the 3400 swap does look kinda good right now....

i seen a write up about this some where... and its pretty straight forward other then you need custom length push rods which has already been mentioned here. and i do think you can buy them as a set somewhere...

I seen a post about this and someone said to use different head gaskets... from a 3.8 L firebird i do believe.

sure you could just swap in a 3400 complete engine, but maybe with the 3400 heads on these blocks the compression ratio is different and maybe have more power ?

I thought about doing this with my 3.1 and i had gotten a complete top end from a 3100 and 3400. but changed my mind and im going with a turbo build now with a stock tgp engine.

i think your real close on that. 205 HP stock maybe around 6 psi.. the t25 turbo is under rated for the size of the engine so spools fast. but you can tune the ecm with a top gun chip or others and get 250 HP without opening the engine.

I bought.. but not picked up yet lol. a 90 tgp engine. still without opening the engine and putting on a larger turbo and a good tune, maybe change the injectors to keep up with the added boost, you can push 300-400 hp with ease on these engines..

My goal with mine is 350 HP, larger turbo, larger intercooler, yellow top injectors, mild cam, i am going to open the engine just freshen it up with new main bearings/cam bearings/rings give it a slight touch with the hone. not going to bore it out or anything just freshen the bottom end so i know its going to hold together. might do some mild porting on the heads at least on the exhaust ports.

I think 350 HP will be the minimum for my setup when its finished, it will probably be closer to 400 or over. all comes down to how much boost you feed it i guess, apparently the bottom ends of these engines will take alot of abuse and i know more then 250 HP in a front wheel drive will be torque steer hell but.. it will be fun as hell to drive LOL specially with my 5 speed.

And for 3.1 L bottom end abuse.. my stock 3.1 i was told had 100,000 KM on it but who knows.. i have put over 15,000 KM on it and alot of them were pretty hard ones but not all, i dont normally hammer on it very often. but it will bary the tach to the point the needle sits on the bottom of the cluster and it cant go any further, and yes i have pushed it there more then once. and has no noises at all out of the engine still runs tip top, never had a problem with it not running. -30 C here a month ago for a week straight, just touch the key and they way it goes. so i think the bottom ends in these can take alot of abuse.

Id like to find a better ratio 5 speed though, i think mines the 283 getrag. and i really really hate 1st and 2nd gear. 3rd gear is a good power gear to pick up speed quick, but 1st is just useless, i can take off slow and if i punch it the tach is barried like instantly. would be nice to get a little more speed out of 1st and 2nd gear.

I was going to try a 4 speed from a fiero, my dad picked up 2 cars for scrap and i didnt get there fast enough to yank a trany out. i did some research on it and i think the final drive is .10 lower then the 5 speed and 4th gear was pretty close to 5th on a 5speed but the first 3 gears were alot higher so you could get a ton more speed faster and hold your foot right into it longer in 1,2,3rd

sorry about the long post LOL when i get tired i carry on alot mostly about nothing but anyways....
