My jackshaft is the same length, just stronger. All getrags got a jackshaft.

Only the izuzu had uneven axle lengths(drastically uneven). The getrag axles are pretty close in length.

Its all just a myth

Why not get the stronger steel version instead of aluminum? Mine and most others I've seen are steel.

These shafts use a weak aluminum bracket to attach to the motor, and IIRC a smaller ID shaft. I already broke a normal jackshaft bracket, and thats steel.

But I had 2 that sold for good money so Ill keep looking for them!
Un-even length axles makes for one hell of a torque steer setup. Also an axle that long is just asking to die with a lot of power.
There is a different jack shaft that is more common... which is what Barry is talking about here. It uses an exposed shaft and bearing setup, opposed to the one pictured at the top which actually has tranny fluid in it. The only cars that have no jack shaft are the 4 cylinder Isuzu transmission cars.

No, only to the motor. However, the aluminum one still only has one support bearing all the way at the end. I see no benefit of having a housing around the shaft EXCEPT using it for custom applications.

Rodney is 100% right.

wow, just when i though i knew almost everything about these silly cars, i learn something entirely new... and the sadest part is, i probably passed 50 of these things in the yards through out the years and never did i think of looking becouse quite frankly, i didnt know they existed, and i really dont look at anything pre 91 for parts...

Yes it does only have one Support bearing but this aluminum hosing also Bolts to the transmission and does not need a seal on the transmission since it uses a oring in the shaft itself.

That pic is from 90GTZHO. Its a quad shaft, but you see what I mean. The non housing shaft is MUCH beefier

That's the same one I have.

I really dont see the "Shaft" being beefier since its the same diameter throughout the "shaft" on the beretta 2.8 aluminum one not only the splines are the same the whole shaft is the same thickness throughout mine is completley dissasembled so ill take pics of it and try to upload them in a couple days since my sd card adapter broke. i have a 94 jack shaft im my gararge now and it seems beefier since the surround is steel unlike the aluminum one but im almost betting that the Shaft itself is identical

And the one you have i THINK has a housing but wont come off like the aluminum one. If someone has a junk one ill buy it to cut in half to see if it has just a shaft in the middle

The Getrag on the 2.0 turbo also had uneven axle lengths, but that's not really relevant to the beretta since that was mostly used in pontiacs.

I have that aluminum style, and have a steel bracket. I like the idea of the bearing having oil in it. And they're easily rebuildable.

I have an extra one of those shafts, but not the housing.
