Re: cams ?
Doing a cam in the car is not fun.

Re: cams ?
i kinda was wondered no one said wot-tech already. I have to say as much as i like the 2.8/3.1 engines, if i would mod our V6 engine i would go with a 3400 or atleast 3100... but its your thing, just wanted to say cause i am thinking about modded 3400 swap too

Re: cams ?
For what it will cost to "hopefully" get 200 hp out of a 3.1 the 3400 should be a no-brainer.
With headers and any sort of tune, a 3400 will be close to 200 easily.
And will be a much tamer and reliable car to have to deal with.

Re: cams ?
Almost any N-body car that was sold between 2000 and 2005 with a V6 was either the 3400 or 3500. W-body's were the ones who got the 3800's and such IIRC.

LA1
The LA1 3400 ("E-code") was a bored-out version of the 3100. It retained the OHV layout of the previous engine, and was first utilized on the 1996 U platform minivans and appeared in a car for the first time in the 1999 Pontiac Grand Am and Oldsmobile Alero. A 92 mm (3.6 in) bore with the same 84 mm (3.3 in) stroke brought the displacement to 3.4 L (3,350 cc/204 cu in). The LA1 was updated in 2005 to share common parts with the LX9 3500 GM High Value engine. Power was up to 170 hp-185 hp (127 kW to 138 kW) and torque was 210 lb·ft (285 N·m).

Re: cams ?
You live near me. Get a 3400 from Harrys. There like 95 bucks. Grab one and put new gaskets in it and call it a day. I see them all the time in the yard.
Much cheaper than getting a donor car.

Re: cams ?
i can pick up a wrecked car for like 500 bucks off CL, part out the rest and scrap the shell

Re: cams ?
no, all the blocks are the same as the 2.8's so you use the same trans as you have... this is why its a bolt in swap... only the motor and sensor change, and you juts have to make a bracket for the front mount if you have that style.
there are tons of 3400 swap threads on here so look those up, and check out 3400swap.com for general info on the swap, obviously some stuff will differ since your a MPFI setup vs a SFI install.
