Re: 96 z26 questions.. and gibberish..
I do know the shift points in OD compared to D is different. I say give it a try from a dead stop and compare the two.
Re: 96 z26 questions.. and gibberish..
I really don't think so. But I could be wrong. Jon would know I bet.

I don't seem to recall any difference in mine. And I have done that in the past.

Re: 96 z26 questions.. and gibberish..
My car doesnt seem real sluggish off the line, it gets up and boogies but just wont spin the tires. i had it spin them once, i was by myself following a friend who stopped on a hill to do a burn out in his new early 90's 2 door blazer, so i just had to mess around a little too yanked the ebrake and started roasting them. that was the first time it actually spun them lol, and i cant get it to spin again tryed a few times and just pulls the back wheels, maybe i need to be on a hill and not have the car loaded up as much.
Also if i hold it to the floor it will redline before changing gears, just roars all the way to the top long as it stays above 3,000 Rpm it pulls hard, probably something to do with the ECM change in it still havent had a chance to plug in the scanner and pull the Vin from it yet.
sometimes it takes off better then other times, could just be getting lazy, i have put 10,000 KM on it in like 4 weeks LOL. i kid you not... when i got it the guy was worried it was 1,000 KM over the next oil change due date and that was around 254,000 KM and its up around 265,000 now, and i still havent changed the oil. it looked clear still when i got it.
I almost broke down and bought royal purple oil it was on sale for 11.00/Liter but never did and havent got around to changing it at all yet.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ill be getting the 3400 from my cousin this coming Saturday, he needs cash and told me 250 on the weekend.. he started at 400. he told me he paid 800 for motor and trans. with around 110,000 KM
My plan is to just drop it in probably Saturday and hopefully driving it around Saturday night or at least by Sunday. Considering i dont need to buy parts to make it work..
What i need to change....
put 3100 injectors in the 3400..
I have manifold from a Van including the down pipe, if i have to buy a short piece to connect to my existing exhaust not biggy, i have a welder and torches and what not at the shop, i can make anything work lol.
Everything else is plug and play ?
Throttle body current on my 3100 is from a 3400 i have the throttle linkage and what not from the 3100 TB in it so it all hooks up so i can swap that over.
PS. just found something interesting.. its listed under 60 degree engines..
LZ9
The new LZ9 3900 features Variable Cam Timing, a new feature on a pushrod engine, roller rocker arms and has a variable length intake manifold. The dual intake runners (One short, one longer) improves intake efficiency across a broader RPM range.
It produces 240 hp (179 kW) and 240 ft·lbf (332 Nm) torque, with a wide torque curve. 90% of the torque is available from 1500 rpm to 5500 rpm. Applications:
2006 Pontiac G6 GTP Sedan / Coupe / Convertible
2007 Pontiac G6 GT Sport Package Sedan / Coupe
2007–2009 Pontiac G6 GT Sport Package Convertible
2006–2007 Chevrolet Malibu SS
2006 Chevrolet Impala/Monte Carlo
2006–2009 Buick Terraza/Chevrolet Uplander/Pontiac Montana/Saturn Relay
2009–2011 Buick Lucerne
^^^^^^^^^^ can that fit into a beretta easily ???

Re: 96 z26 questions.. and gibberish..
I would recommend not kicking the living crap out of your cars, and they'll drive fine.
Re: 96 z26 questions.. and gibberish..
The more you beat on it, the slower it gets. Anyway, tirespin is the opposite of what you wanna do when trying to go fast.
And you could make the LZ9 fit in a beretta, but it would take some doing getting it to run.

Re: 96 z26 questions.. and gibberish..
So i pulled the Vin from my ecm tonight..
Vehicle: CORSICA 4 DR
Year: 1996
Build Date: 1996-04-13
L82 ENGINE,3.1L(3.1M)6 CYL,V6,MFI,HO 3.1M(L82)
.... was hoping it was something good, im disappointed now.
LZ9... 240 HP stock seems pretty good, you wouldnt really have to do much mods, it would all ready haul big time. slap a cam in that and headers, get a tune it might just keep up with Pink. lol
...........
im just checking a few things on Comp Nine with the Vin..
Z04 MODEL CONVERSION,"Z26" BERETTA(1LV37 + Z04 = 1LW37) BERETTA "Z26"(Z04)
whats this option all about ?? Z04 is that just the Z26 body kit ? or something with the suspension
The Corsica runs the same trans.. same final drive ratio.. but the difference is the tire size.
Corsica... QFB TIRE ALL P195/70R14 BW R/PE ST TL ALS 90S TIRE(QFB)
Beretta. QMS TIRE ALL P205/55R16 BL R/PE ST TL AL2 89S TIRE(QMS)
So this is why my spedo is off, im pretty sure its off the same no matter what speed, the speed limit around here is 80 KM and i sit at 100 all the time, i passed 3 cops today on my way home and never bothered me, so i think im doing 90.
Also this could be why it shifts different. seems to haul good, but just wont spin the tires taking off. but once it hits 3,000 RPM it just screams, when i kick it down to pass someone it drops down to 2nd gear and pretty much red lines before going back to 3rd, cant get it to red line in 4th cuz it shuts down.
Just thought the lower end power / not being able to smoke the wheels off it was something not normal but seems others with the same setup has the same issue so i guess its normal.

tire size is not all that different i guess....
the 195/70/14
diameter 24.7
circumference 77.7
revs/miles 815
205/55/16
diameter 24.9
circumference 78.2
revs/miles 811
Seems to be enough that my spedo is out nearly 10 KM

Re: 96 z26 questions.. and gibberish..
I asked before is it 10km all the time or does it compound? If its 10km all the time its just the needle, any ECM configuration will start small and get larger the faster you go.
beretta's also came with 195/70/14's and the ECM's are not different between Z26 and Base Model so that is not the reason for your Speedo difference.
I don't know how many times we need to say this... its a 160 Hp STOCK brand new engine... That is far from Tire smoking madness to begin with... And you have 265,000KM on it LEAVE It be and stop beating the piss out of it like a child would.
The LZ9 is far beyond a project you would want to take on. You would have to swap everything from the ECM to the whole wiring harness of the donor car to get the variable timing to even work, otherwise you would have to lock the cams and have them re-ground to operate better without the VVT. This is why the most people swap in the beretta right now is the 3500 non VVT motor, with a few additional sensors it will run on a stock harness with a programmed ECM to make it run optimal.
There are no shift point differences between OD and D... It just leaves out 4th gear and it will keep the torque converter engaged when you let off the gas when in third gear, normally the trans will coast when in OD to conserve fuel.

Tire size is in the chip, not the ecm itself.

There is no chip on a 96, its flashed, so that makes it part of the ECM.Chad91GTZ wrote:Tire size is in the chip, not the ecm itself.

Re: 96 z26 questions.. and gibberish..
im pretty sure the spedo is out 10 km all the way.. theres a radar thing on a telephone pole coming into my town to show your speed, and it cuts out at 80 KM, most of them stop at 100. i do 50 im really doing 40, i do 80 it jumps around from 70-73. its not very accurate. half the time it doesnt even pick me up till im just about to pass by it, other times it picks me up 500 feet away.
I sit at 100 on the highway and never get bothered so i must not be doing much more then 90. KM..
How is it all you are changing the final drive ratio... aftermarket or performance diff's or just out of a different fwd trans ?
I dont have much complaints for my 96 other then it doesnt have power to spin the wheels but not all a bad thing. it still has plenty of top end to pass just about anything on the highway.
I dont really pound on it that much. for the most part i use cruise on the highway unless theres lots of traffic just easier not to use it, but i do kick it down to pass people who are doing 60-70 KM in an 80 and it will get up and go.
In the future i may do a 3500 swap or experiment with things and stick something else in there. but for now ill be getting the 3400 for $250 bucks and slapping that in and call it a day. very soon my Girl will be driving the 96 and ill be back in the 88 so its probably best that it doesnt have too much power or i may not have a car left.
Been debating what to do about the 88 though. i just got my insurance renewal forms and it went up almost $40.00 a month, i have no clue why, next month will be 12 months i had it. My broker can only get me insurance through 1 company for that car because of the age, its under classical crap. my 96 Z26 sport edition with v6 is over $100/month less. the 88 is registered with a 4 cylinder base model. seems like BS to me. I was asking about my 84 firebird she said i could put it under some other type of insurance as a summer car that i drive less the 5,000 KM yr/season. maybe i can do that with the 88 retta and if they actually check the ODO i will get around that LOL, i can put the original one back in if they will check it, and when i drive around ill have the new one i just got in there.
