The ACDelco Iridiums are about the same cost as the Autolites, and less than the NGKs (which are the same?).. even if they're 50¢ more, that's $3 over how much time?

$7 apiece vs $5 apiece. Just saying. And I've not seen any numbers proving the AC Delco ones last any longer or perform any better than the Autolite.

They're only $5.55 from RockAuto.

PLUS shipping. What are they SHIPPED?

* I looked under '92 GTZ (both motors) and all I didn't even see AC Delco Iridiums listed. However, Autolites were. As well as NGK.

Autolite Iridium , shipped for 6: $30.54

NGK Iridium , shipped for 6: $44.56

So , by my mathematical estimation, that's $14.02 difference. That's enough to make me buy Autolite.

Your comparing 3.1L applications to 3400/3100/3500 stuff... thats not anywhere near the same. Engine design and efficiency changed so the plug heat ranges changed as well, that is why 41-101's are not listed on the 3.1L engines, I don't think those get listed till 2000+ too anyways. The listings for the 41-101's are very strage, but you can see even the autolite number is not the same for 3.1 vs 3100. 3100 is XP606 and 3.1 is XP5245

I also agree with Cliff... For something thats going to last 100k miles... Who cares about $14. There are certain area's to skimp and in my mind thats not one, same with brakes and bearings.

Actually, I've used the 41-101s in the 3.1 as well. The 94 3100 spec'd a R44LTSM6 which is identical to the 2.8/3.1 R44LTSM just pre-gapped to .060.

I do remember reading somewhere that GM's ignition system is made for AC's. Not to say that you can't use anything else. Just that I had some bad problems with other brands when I had HEI cars. That was enough to make me stick with AC's.

You're missing the point fellas. I'm not TALKING about a "cheaper and inferior" product. I've had nothing but GREAT luck with Autolites and I've yet to see the tangible data that proves the AC Delcos are a "step above". Prove it.

So.... In other words, if I can get the SAME or BETTER quality Iridium plug from Autolite without paying a bloated price for a "name" , then why wouldn't I? I'm not sacrificing quality OR performance. I'm just saving cash.

Thats like saying the AC Delco filter I can buy for my car is the same as the Fram filter that I can buy. Fram makes Autolite plugs and with their reputation on oil filters I'm not so sure on their plug designs. It may work just fine but I'm reading some reviews online where Autolite's and others can crack very easily during installation due to lesser quality insulators.

Everyone has their own preference, but I try to stick to what plug the car was designed to run with. NGK's IX's reside in the Subie since thats what came stock, and I have NGK's in the Beretta, ACDelco is made by NGK so the type is the same.

hey guys, are the ac delco rapid fires good? i may splurge and get the ac delco iridiums (if available for the 3100 in my 95, or can i get them for a later year engine and gap differently-to stock recommended specs? can you even change the gap on all iridium plugs?)

how many fill ups would you say it takes to pay off the difference in cost from platinum to iridium? lol i am pretty poor currently, and need other parts, so every buck does count right now... can always get better in another 2 years... or another motor!

and whats the word on Denso plugs? i put a set in my taurus SHO years ago and they worked great.

available on rockauto for my 95 beretta 3100: NGK iridium 7164 (TR551x) $6.50 per
NGK laser iridium 5599 (TR4A15) $7.61
and Denso iridium (gapped at .035 instead of standard for others .060?) 5325 (IT16) $7.75

and wire set acdelco 726F (12096449) is on for $15.83. good set?

Gee. Starting to wonder if the Bosch iridiums I bought for the caravan were any good. The only difference I see between them and the ones you guys threw pictures up of, is that they had 4 prongs going to the tip rather than just one. No one has mentioned them, so had me wondering. I installed those along with bosch wires and the van runs tons better now. Seems to be smoother, maybe getting better gas mileage even. But then it had 170k miles on the factory original plugs and wires and it had gaped from .50 to .65-.80 with wear. Price? I think I paid around 60 bucks or so shipped for both plugs and wires from RA. So I didn't think that was bad.
