You are supposed to reuse the threaded fitting... you're supposed to tap the threads into the lower intake manifold.
Did you check out

Ah, that all makes sense now. I did check out the site, and I remember not quite understanding what was being said. Why I couldn't put it together today is beyond me, obviously. Thanks. I don't suppose you know the thread size?

Make sure not to pull or pinch any wires...
Ask me how I know... ÂÂÂ
Well at least in a '96 it should set the check engine light if any wires get pinched... =)

Ok, so the engine is in, all the fluids are filled up, and the car runs. I just need to recharge the a/c and put the hood back on, and that'll be that. Unfortunately, while I was reconnecting everything, I came across two connectors that I couldn't match up. They are both by the alternator, one of them is a two pin connector and has a grey boot and is bundled up with the O2 sensor wires, the other is a three pin connector and has a purple boot and is bundled with the connectors to the fuel rail. Any ideas as to where these two go? Also, the tach doesn't really work now, it just kinda twitches on zero. Could it be those connectors, or something else?

Make sure you have everything plugged in (Crankshaft Position Sensor/Camshaft Position Sensor) . Also make sure the EVAP system is correctly taken care of.

What color are the wires in the two different plugs?
It sounds like you don't have the engine coolant temperature (ECT) wiring plugged in, and a plug to the ignition control module (ICM). There are 3 different plugs that plug into the ICM.
Get the wire colors and I can be more specific about what you don't have plugged in correctly

One of them was the crankshaft sensor. I plugged in the camshaft sensor in it's place. I apparently the wires for those two sensors are shorter on a Grand Am than they are on a Beretta, because I had to extend the camshaft wires to plug it in. I'll check on the other one tomorrow.

Which crankshaft sensor? The one under the crank pulley, or the one on the back of the block?
The one on the back of the block has the same length wiring that our cars do... all it does is connect the crankshaft position senor to the ICM.
As far as the camshaft position sensor wiring, you're supposed to use the 3100 one that came from your car....

Yeah, I kinda figured that one out the wires weren't long enough, but is there any real difference in the sensors? And it was the crankshaft sensor under the pulley, the one from the back is hooked up to the coils.

he's probably talking about the crankshaft to iginition module and the transmission VSS wires which can be confused.

Oh, ok. I'm pretty sure I got those right. The loose connection I can't figure out has two wires, a pink one and a purple one, if that helps any.

Well, it took me a few weeks, but I finally got around to the junkyard to figure this one out. I know, I'm lazy. It connector plugs into a sensor or something on a vacuum line that runs behind the engine. Whatever it plugs into is right below the coil packs. I have no idea if that is actually going to affect anything that I can tell about, but it's connected and where it should be now.
