4.9L OHV Cadillac V8 swap, will it fit?
WhiteWolf, I have a 3100 in my car stock, so a 3400 would not be any bigger at all. The Q4 engines take up a lot of room too, you just have more space behind and in front of the motor.
nocutt: Yes even at just 200hp, having a flatter torque curve of a V8 would defiantly smoke. I rode in a 4door caddy with the 4.9 and I think it was the deville, not sure but it's bigger than the one I'm looking at, and I know it had a 4.9 pushrod in it as I saw it. But anyways with all that weight that vehicle could get up and move. It blasted off the line and flew! Mind you this was with 3 adults in the car too!
I'm not sure that weight would be increased much. It's aluminum block so probably weighs about the same as the 3100... Suspension probably wouldn't have to be re-worked since I already have done that before.

Bump.... I know that this is an old post but I can really help other guys that would be reading this. That V8 swap would definitely fit your cadillac. Other parts coming from other cars could fit to a car. It only needs your thinking on how would you arrange that new part for that car to use it. According to some cadillac recalls there are some cadillac parts compatible to almost all other car brands. This also mean that these cadillac cars can use other parts.IsaacHayes wrote:Will a 4.9L OHV (not northstar) Cadillac V8 fit into our engine bays?
I know it will bolt right up to our trans, and it was made for my 4T60-E actually. It's aluminum block with iron heads, so I don't think the weight will be much more from the 3100 that's in there right now. Maybe even less. Only 200hp, but some exhaust, P&P work, and then maybe throw on a turbo or CSC for more power.
IIRC it uses the same firing order as a SBC, so it would sound pretty bad-*** with the exhaust nice and loud. It would be a lot different from all the other usual swaps.
Actually a 5speed would be a pretty sweet setup, save some weight and you can say you have a MT V8 beretta. But if you already have the 4T60-E, you don't have to worry about it not being able to take the power...

But before we get too carried away with this, will it even fit?
