The diff I may not be able to use... Has quite a bit of slop in the planet gears.
Had to purchase one of these too... 4th gear input shaft... I have a spare but I don't trust that one either. Here is a comparison of the splines.

All and all the carnage is the diff issue, spreading of alluminum throughout the case... which caused valves to stick everywhere... Including the TCC valve, the 1-2 one for a period of time, and the vacuum modulator valve so I had probably way too much line pressure. And the 4th gear input shaft needs replacing... Not too bad but it was near its end.
Case will get a shot of greased lightning and hosed out later today and I'm cleaning all the other parts seperate.
also what do you guys think... This diff is somewhat shot... the planet gears are worn badly... now my question is, should I go to a 3.29 gear ratio instead of the 3.33?? this would require changing the internal FD gear in the trans that can only be done now with all the parts out, so its 3.29 for good... no I'll change to 3.33 later... but what do you think... ".04" gear worth waiting for parts???
My g/f father larry said it isn't that much of a difference so I wouldnt eve notice it. Especially since I'm already going from 2.97 to 3.29 or 3.33 I'll feel the ~ .3 difference more...

Looks like you know a lot about the 4t60-e. Heh, I know my chain is likely shot. I'm surprised I haven't snapped it by now.
I'd stick with 3.29 if you have the parts already. 3.33 like you said isn't that big of a jump. Going from stock to 3.29 you WILL feel a big difference. Just from driving a lumina with the same 3100, it can smoke the tires a lot easier than mine and jumps off the line a lot better, even with the heavier car. It makes a big difference. Have you read this? Not sure if the pcm will behave with the changes? Are you going to put in the speed sensor ring so the speedo is correct? Not sure if the pcm would be happy with that or need tweaking...
Carefull on the greased lightning. It will etch/pit aluminum. I've used it to strip anodizing off of aluminum before. Don't let it sit too long.
Looks to be fairly straight forward and not that bad to tear into the trans. I don't know about the clutches/etc though. Of course there might be "pics" you left out to the job. If you have a nice shop and can yank it out then it probably isn't too bad.
Have you thought about taking the trans mount apart and filling with urathane?

Nothing to really fill.... or I dont know how to do that with the mount. But yeah clutch packs are where the work is... I'll have to post some more pics. Oh and I used Gunk Foaming engine degreaser not greased lightning... I thought of the wrong thing when I posted that. Things are going well though, have the 1-2 sprag rebuilt, one clutch pack done and working on the dual clutch pack now... hardest part is the spring loaded stuff since I dont own any of the special compression tools.
Oh and yeah I'm putting a 30 tooth tone ring on to fool the speedo fast so it shifts right. Thats also the second reason why I need to do a inline speedo cutout swich so I can kill it once it reaches third gear in the 1/4 mile or I'll hit my limiter before I even reach 115mph.

The Gunk engine degreaser works well. Hmm so you are doing clutch packs. Are you going to get by without the special tools? Pics of the clutch packs please. Never seen one before. Maybe it will help me understand how people can "add" more clutch packs to a transmision!
Dead soul returns
I'm not adding more packs to the trans but Yeah I can get by with out special tools... all the clutch packs are held in by circle clips.
I'll try to get some shots of the clutch packs when I get a chance today. I brought them with me to install the bushings in them today. Other than that just one one on the table in the next pic still needs the discs installed... the other one on the shelf is already packed.

Clutch pack apart.
There is one extra black steel plate that i could probably add to the top of this pack to tighten it up, but since I know nothing about adding clutch packs or the direct result of that I'm going to just put it back the way it came apart.  As far as special tools, I'm gonna be screwed if I want to do the teflon rings on one part... thats going to be the hard thing to install.  Other than that I have managed to pull apart every spring assy that they say you need specific spring compressors to do so... plus I installed a few seals that are noted to need special tools, you just need to be carefull and know how to work with the seal so you dont stretch the hell out of it, thats all.

you soak the clutches in tranny fluid?
Dead soul returns
no... am i supposed to?? it didn't mention that anywhere... I still havent installed the packs into the case yet so pulling them apart again is no big deal.
I'm still waiting for my diferential and my 4th gear input shaft, which probably wont be here till monday so I still have time to soak them.

anything with friction material should be soaked prior to assembly. Any bands or clutches should be soaked.

That would make sense.

Bushings done teflon rings done... hose clamps work as resizers pretty good... clutches and bands soaked and all put together. Waiting on diff, and driven gear, since I had the wrong one.... anyone need a 35 tooth 125 tranny driven gear?
This is how she sits now.
Valve body to channel plate assy, ball bearing install spacer plate and gaskets.
All innards in
Ionly put the parts in and out like 3 times to make sure I had everything in, and for some reason I couldn’t find one thrust bearing that goes between the reaction carrier assy and reaction sun gear drum... I have no idea on how I would have lost it because that part never left the basement, where others went on a trip to work to get cleaned an bushings installed. luckily I brought all of my other parts from my last trans and I found the bearing I needed... Still in good condition so I used that one. I am hoping to god that the bearing was not left out in the first rebuild of this... if it was, I'm very surprised.
