I was thinking about something like that for mine, but i open the back all the time and I didnt know how much of a pita that would be with ambulance doors. so I was looking at roof mounts.
That might just look weird on a truck. how about the front bumper? with a front mounted trailer hitch? maybe the only way is underneath if you dont want it in the bed.

Why not just re-route the exhaust, seems WAY easier and cheaper to do than try to fab up a hitch mounted spare, which I agree, will look rather gay...

That's another option, but it was looking like I'd have to change the U that goes over the axle too to make it fit...and I really like the exhaust where it is now. Maybe that would be better than a "Jurassic Park" inspired spare. haha

That is so gay. It makes me want to punch babies.

I've seen the tiregate series which is a nice idea, but they're stupid-expensive...and fabbing one doesn't exactly look like a walk in the park.

And a google for "hitch spare tire pickup" brought me this pic that looks like a bunny tail...pretty gay. Might look better with a full-size MTR on a matching wheel with everything black, but I'm going to have to do a photoshop. If I made my own I'd bring it down lower.

cut a hole in your bed the size of the tire and bolt it to the frame

That's worse than driving a pink car... Just re-route your pipe... I'm sure you can get it to end where it is now without much work.

instead of spending a shitload of money on something that gayer than justin beiber just re-route the pipe.

you should have enough scrap pipe to accommodate what you need to re-route the pipe.

well then you would have to repaint your truck. haha

the only time the tire hanging off the back looks alright is with jeeps. a pickup not so much it just looks too out of place especially when you have a spot to hide it under the bed.

haha I saw that one on google too. Didnt show the spare as well though.

Spent a little time on the truck forums looking at exhaust tips and most of them look shitty. I may just do a dump after the axle so it's invisible like I did on the Camaro.

Made my first towing voyage with the truck this weekend. Took it almost 500 miles with a U-Haul trailer to get a 69 Cuda for my old man...pulling just about 5000lbs exactly. I'm not a big fan of the surge brakes on the U-Haul, and I couldn't use a weight-distributing hitch because of them, so it squatted pretty good. It towed well though, no sway or funky handling...brakes were ok. Had to hit 4th gear up some hills but I never had to go WOT...the power was there. Mileage was worse than I expected (13 out, 11 back) but better than the 8.1 2500HD I picked up my truck with a few years ago that got 8 loaded & unloaded.

All in all, I was happy with it. And I think it will be better with the weight-distributing hitch and electric trailer brakes.

Oh, and I replaced the ugly chrome/gold "Silverado" emblems on the cab with "Vortec" ones I made at work that call out the engine specs. When I pulled the Silvy ones off it wrecked the paint so I had to cover it back up with something.
