Re: Project 91 "SS" 3400/5spd
I know...hindsight is a bitch. I went with the guy in Buffalo because with his quick turnaround time it would have been faster!
If there really was contamination in my friend's sandblast job like the PC guy tells me there was, then my TechLine coating would have had problems too.
I just hope I really get them back tomorrow and it's not another "check is in the mail" story.

Re: Project 91 "SS" 3400/5spd
What was used to sand blast it before? All I heard is if you used glass bead to blast the pipes it wouldn't leave a rough enough surface to adhear to thats why Techline recommends 120grit aluminum oxide... Also contamination can typically be cleaned before coating. I used Metal Ready and Marine Clean to get my headers all clean after getting them blasted... well after they were blasted I had coated them with WD-40 to prevent any rust while I was doing the v-band flange... so thats really all I was cleaning off. Then I also drenched them with acetone like recommended by techline in their painting guide... Both turned out great this time around where as my first set did flake in like 3 spots... so far nothing on this set, at least nothing I can see... LOL
I think I'm gonna pull the front header tonight if I finish my struts quickly and then wipe it down and do the clear spray just to see how it looks... its also supposed to act as a heat barrier too, so if it works out good and looks good then I'll decide if I want to pull the rear and do that before Bfest.
Oh, also are you going to Pat's wedding? And are you bringing the Turd if you go? I plan on bringing Pinky.

Are you talking Saturday or Sunday? Tiff couldn't get Sunday off (holiday weekends are find-your-own-coverage and she could only bribe enough for Saturday).

Re: Project 91 "SS" 3400/5spd
Other than the battery on my drill dying, I've got the FE7 brackets done. Metal fabbing takes a lot of time with just a cut off wheel and a sanding disc...

He'll know pretty quick.
A couple hard back to back corners should let a guy know.

Re: Project 91 "SS" 3400/5spd
I beveled the edges and had the heat cranked up to 4. I'm sure it will hold up well. I love welding the thicker stuff, it's so much easier to get a nice bead than something thin like sheet metal or even exhaust.
The doubled up section that attached to the strut is held together with the knuckle bolts, and the stock piece only has one small tack weld (if that's what you're referring to.)
