just had my exhaust done:

2.25" piping
catco hi-flow cat
flowmaster 40 muffler  ( also have another brand new one for sale

Sounds great, even compared to my brothers 89 5.0 mustang
I also made a litte ricey hoda jealous because his was farty, then i reved mine up.  nice

I paid about 300 for parts and labor, I am just unsure of what gains i will be getting.

hehehehe uhhh dual exhaust no mufflers and a custom merged xpipe xrossover though its incredibly loud i really gotta feather in throttle around town... yea basically now ive chopped the stock manifolds for a true dual set of 2 inch  pipes running back the same rotue till the first bend, the new donut gaskets and hardware including salvaged manifold parts for yet another gasket was about 45 bucks, pipe was 100, and tips 23 apiece... welded and bent myself welded with mig welder bent with a conduit bender and a oxy acetlyne torch... here is the scoop though need to remember this you have to build hangers for the system or it RATTLES!!!!!!!!!

What mufflers are deep and loud--but not get pulled over in a really "do you have a muffler on that thing?"-esque town-loud--and also good straight-through for performance on a 3.1?  I was thinking flowmaster 40 series.  They claim to be deep and aggressive-sounding but I hear a lot of downtalk on that.  For now all I can afford to do is replace the stock muffler but I plan to do 2.5 dual in a few months and buy a matching muffler to the one I get within a couple weeks for that.  Also, any suggestions for high-flow cats?  And finally, what is a resonator and where is it?  I'm a newb, I know, but this is how to learn, right?    Thanks

I have a cheap chrome muffler. Straight through design. Sounds just like a regular glasspack. Also came with removable silencer just in case those dam cops get on my case. Got it off ebay for 50 bucks. I got it because it was chrome. Never can have to much chrome.
