Okay, for those of us lucky enough not to have emissions laws and don't have to have our car tested every year I have a question.  Has anyone with a 3.1 Beretta gutted their cat yet?  Reason being I want to know if there is a significant difference in fuel mileage (and maybe boost in power) if you gut the cat.  I gutted the one in my '91 Sonoma 4.3 and it made a hell of a difference top-end.  Any thoughts?

Only if said cat is clogged.  The exhaust itself is more of a restriction than the cat if the cat is good.

Got to back wicked-irocz on the flow. The laws where I'm at say that if the car had a cat on it when you bought it, it must have one. As for gutting it, that will hurt flow more than if you had a newer(they flow better than the old ones) or a high flow cat on. The cops have asked me if I have a cat on my car, if they thought I didn't they could send me to a shop to show that I did. This would be money out of pocket for that and there could be a fine if I didn't have one or a gutted cat. Just remember that this is how they make money. If they are the same way where you are at, don't give them a chance to rip you off. They don't care if you do or don't they will just say that they are doing their "job".
