Oh man I HAD one of these! But it was such a piece of crap I had to sell it for hundreds less than what I bought it for just to be able to move on to the next project.

That (well, the hatchback part, at least) is almost EXACTLY what I thought too, that and 'It should have been a five-speed.' But hey, I can't afford it right now regardless, so...
I own 1.5 '97 Z-24s (the .5 is one I co-own with a relative; she needed a good car, so I helped her buy it, I fixed the clutch/transmission problems, and in a few years, ownership of the car will revert to me -with insurance pay-out on a fender-bender added in, we have both been paid to own this car up to this point), and I love them, but yes, the late '80s hatchback Z-24 was the best-looking Cavvy ever, IMO. There was a pristine black one not too far from me a few years ago, I always liked seeing it sitting in the driveway.

on craigslist now-

Look at the under hood pics. Notice the red paint overspray on the hood latch by the cowl and on the fender brace bolts? Other than a few spots on the seats and carpet, the car looks spot on. Really thinking about going to look at this....

Go for it. If you get it, dump that battery ASAP. Interstates work great up to a point and then they only work off and on.

I've actually had really good luck with the few Interstates I've owned -and they all either came with a car I bought used or from a junk-yard, so no history available, and NOT new. I think I've still got one working now, after four+ years, plus whatever it had on it before I got it. But I've heard stories too, so maybe I have just gotten lucky...
