i have always wanted one of these things for some reason, if nothing more than to see what happens when you hit 88mph

you guys have any general opinions on them? i swear if i find one worth the cost i'm gonna get it......

I didn't check the company name on that link. I know that there is a company that is "remaking" them and you can get what you want(V6, SBC, BBC,etc).

I'd love to own a DeLorean, too bad they are ...quite rare here and the price is more than premium.

Get rid of their terrible engines and you would have a pretty sweet car.

After watching that one episode of American Dad, I wouldn't want to own one with lots of pieces missing. If everything is their, you can always use some elbow grease and restore it all.

I'd rock the $hit out of one, but the closest I can probably get is a stainless-vinyl wrapped VW Scirocco

You can get one essentially completely brand new. A company in Texas bought the entire stock of Delorean parts when they went under. They'll even add new school options like power windows.

There is a Delorean running around with an LS1 swap in it on ls1tech somewhere.

i think they could barely get to 88 mph... lol very similar 2.8 v6 to the gm. version i think it was.

most of them sell around $20k - $25k usually. i browse for them sometimes lol. there was one for sale here a few years back. when i stopped to check it out up close, there were a lot of fingerprints on its stainless steel body from other peepers.

I believe their 2.8L V6 is Peugout or Renault derived, which are nowhere near as bulletproof as the GM 60* 2.8L V6

Koots, you are 100% on the breed of the engine, they are not even remotely similar to the GM V-6 -and despite Doc Brown's stalling issues and starter problems, the engines were NOT known for chronic reliability problems, as I recall. The engines were rated at or near 150 HP, probably crank rather than wheel, but GM's pushrod 2.8s (Deloreans had an over-head cam engine) were making about two-thirds of that in those days, unless you had the HO from the Citation X, and even then... According to Wiki, the US version lost 20 HP to the catalytic converters, but I am skeptical of this.

I remember seeing one of these brand new on the showroom floor at the local Ferrari dealership, and was very impressed with the overall finish of the car, at least for back then. The last time I 'almost' bought one -and there have been a few times I 'almost' bought one, including a bidding-war on e-bay for a damaged one that exceeded my limit by a grand or so, back when ebay had the optional 'proxy bidding' (yeah, I feel old, thanks)- it was at an auto pawn for around $15k, and wasn't a bad deal, it was in really nice shape. The cars sit so low and wide, it really is shocking when you see it in person.

I've already seen an electric version once (not in person though) a few years ago, and thought that it was a good platform to get weird with, technologically speaking.

BTW Styluss, Deloreans HAVE power windows already, it is just that small section that goes down, since the main body of glass is semi-structural for the gull-wing door.

I would still love to have one of these, but they are now in that status of automobiles that have a cost far exceeding the value, and getting more expensive every day, so I don't know that I'll ever find one for the price I would want to pay for it again...
