Why not just get a high output a w-41 is a lost cause anymore after talking to guys on here I could build a nice w-41 out of a high output for the time energy and money it would take to find a w41 engine, the only differences are cams and 2 extra valve reliefs in the pistons which don't do much to behind with, unless your wanting the w-41 idi cover too but those are easy to find if you know where to look

Don't forget the 086 head and the chip.

Which engine is the HO one? Are you talking about the LG0? Sorry im not the best with this stuff. I have a 95 cavalier race car in an oval bone stock series. I have a mechanic friend that does most of the work, I just need to find the parts

I think the right LG0 is around 180hp. That would be a nice upgrade from my 2.3L quad 4 from my 95 z24 which is 150. Is it possible to turn my 2.3L quad 4(LD2) into a w-41 or LG0? Whats the differences?
Thanks,
Kevin

Cams and heads were the main things. You have a 2.4 Twin Cam in that 95. Look up secret cam swap, that would help some.

You are not going to find a REAL W-41 motor just sitting on e-bay or wherever.
And the whole W-41 thing is SO overblown!
It's 10 HP. You couldn't feel that to save your or my sorry arse.
Having said that I have to admit I have a W-41 IDI cover I paid a fortune for.
it's car show stuff!
Get a a good HO engine and enjoy the Quad experience.
I STILL hate the damn things!!

Mine is actually a 2.3L Quad 4. It came in 1995 only in the cavalier. What do I need to turn it into the HO version that was offered in the beretta? Heads and cams?

OK so can you really "feel" 10 hp?
Mine apparently has the "Dr. Oldsmobile" 2 degree cam gears, whatever the Hell that is all about.
They were Dealer installed when Jim had the head gasket replaced under the warranty.
Does that give me W-41 power?
Hell I haven't had this thing over 4500 RPM or so in a year! LOL!!
Just hit 68,000 miles on the weekend.
Runs like a champ.

No he has the 2.3L hybrid engine last year for the true 2.3L quad 4 but the first year for balance shafts, but yeah you can use the block and build it up you just have to get an. 89-94 crank for it because of the balance shafts,2.4L didn't begin til 96, making it a one year only cavalier quad car my buddy had a z24 5 speed quad wish he still had I probably would have bought it off him, but yeah find yourself an 086 casting head, high output or if you lucky get w-41s I'd recommend send yours in to comp cams and having them regroups to the hg2 cams "hot grind" it'll be cheaper in long run

You need ther proper W 41 chip to get the most of those cams, and the HO red lines at 6850IIRC, and W41 at 7450rpm,
LOL, hey grand pa, 4500rpm is your style, we younger(and stupid) guys rev redline....(LOL)

Mine is 100% stock car oval track racer. if im under 4500 rpm im doing something wrong

So I need a crank, heads and cams from a HO version of the 2.3 and ill be working some good HP? Do I have to change the crank?

There is a bit more than just cams, but yes that is the major piece of it. The pistons also have four valve relief slots on them as opposed to just two for the HO version. Not that it matters much as people still run the cams in HO engines (Hello!) I thought there were a couple small changes to the actual block, but its too early and I was up far too late last night working to think straight.

i have a w41 motor that ran when i purchased it, 66,000 miles on it. along with the 3.94fdr trans. i paid $400. now grant it, the motor had a bad headgasket or head(typical 086). but for $400 for a complete engine and transmission, i fail to see where i went wrong? lol. now its tore down in my garage, cams are wrapped in plastic and oil. pistons are laying on the work bench, and the block is on the stand. haha
