I think I found a heck of a set of the trilogy books.

These are UNOPENED, and appear to be from 1978. I have been poking around online, haven't found the same set anywhere, many others, some similar, but none like this one. Not even ebay.

Anyone have an idea about these? I did fire off an e-mail to a site from Europe that had some of these book sets listed, but they didn't have this one either.

I did find a couple of other references to these, but nothing concrete. Certainly none floating around for sale, outside of one on Amazon of all places. But all the once I have seen are not in as nice a shape.

Any thoughts?

Well, since no one else seems to be responding, I won't let you sit here alone... I remember reading "The Hobbit" to one of the elementary school classes I was sub-teaching in back in the day, way before the 'recent' Tolkien movies. I read using different voices, which was apparently new for the kids -a lot of fun for everyone, it was a very good time for me in some ways.

Anyone who likes this series should track down Terry Brooks' "Shannara" series as well, a little over-detailed at times, but great with a sense of adventure, purpose, and filled with imagery, almost a similar story-line in some ways, yet still original. I have an older edition set of Anne McCaffrey's "Dragon Riders of Pern" too, from a similar printing era as what you've got, though no where near as clean as what you found, Ace. Did you buy them? Will you keep them sealed, or open them up?

The last time we vacationed over in Europe, we spent almost a whole afternoon browsing a book-store in Glasgow, Scotland. We almost filled one of our check-in bags with books! That was before the airlines decided to charge extra for every bag you checked-in, which they might not do still on international flights, IDK.
