i've been thinking about doing a 3.8s/c swap into my beretta... i found a motor series 2 $300..no wiring harness or ecm though.. how much is invoved in doing this swap.. welding etc?.. my main concern is will it bolt up to the 5 speed in my gtz... wiring harness and such i can locate at the junk yard..    any info would be greatly appreciated.... thank you

A 3400, or better yet a 3500 swap, will give you the same power and alot less headaches, to say nothing of leaving you with a few pennies to buy some gas.

I would do up a 3500...3800 sc is just more work thenit is worth in my opinion.

yea i was thinking it would be a real headache to do the 3.8 swap but i heard of the deal for $300 for a s/c 3.8.. i just was looking for input to see if it was worth it.. guess not. i have driven cars with the 3.5 and very impressed with the power..  i would consider a 3.5 swap if it would bolt up to my trans.. will it?  any input is greatly appreciated

Nope, your trans bellhousing pattern in your GTZ is specific to the Quad4 / TwinCam.

Where in Michigan are you? Theres plenty of 'yards around here with reasonably priced 3400 & 3500's.

You would have to swap the bell housing for a V6 unit.

Look for a 2.8 or 3.1 5-speed at the junk yard.

Your car being a Quad to begin with is also going to present more work than a straight V-6 swap.

Not to mention you may be somewhat ostracized for messing with a Quad car.

You may want to re-think this project IMHO.

What year is this GTZ anyways?

if you were near me, id do you a favor and give you a 3.1 gtz for that quad gtz of yours, but your not near me, on the other hand, one, what year is that quad z, and 2, your much better off with the quad motor, a little work to that motor and it will burn up the 3400 swaped v6's, and for the money it will cost you to do this swap, your better off with that quad being overhualed. im a quad lover, so i say keep the quad z...... and your gas milage is good with the quad compared to the v6, lets see, 32mpg vs 19mpg..... need i say more?

if you're going to the trouble of putting a 3.8sc motor in due to the fabrication needed I would just say screw the little 3.8 and throw a northstar V8 in there.

Blackedoutgtz, why don't you turbo it and get pretty good performance that way. Rex did it, and Punkboy15 owns it now, you might want to talk to him.
