Wiper issue.. motor?
Hi guys.. I left to go to Korea for the Army back in August 06.. my car was run around the block a few times a week just to keep it functional... I came back on May 12th for leave and the wipers are having an issue. They worked fine before I left.. now.. when i turn them on, the driver's side one has a bit of a delay in it, then when it goes up.. it keeps going.. right off the edge of the windshield... and it gets hung... hanging over the edge of the windshield... my passenger's side one looks to be working fine... any ideas? I was told the transmission was bad(motor transmission), but my uncle said that it was an easy fix.. one of the little cams came loose and you just have to put it back on.... just wanted to check with you all first... thanks!

Wiper issue.. motor?
You may want to look at is how tight the nut is that holds the wiper arm on the knurled shaft (which is part of the wiper transmission).
The nut is a 13 or 14mm (if I recall correctly)that holds the arm on. If the wiper has flown off of the windshield it may be "out of sync" with the passenger wiper. I would remove the nut on the drivers side, then carefully insert a straight bladed screwdriver into the slot in the arm just past the nut to remove some of the downward spring tension on the arm. This will allow you to remove the arm from the shaft.
What you want to do next is run the wipers for a few seconds, then shut them off to allow the "linkage" under the cowl and the motor to return to the home or parked position. Your passenger side wiper should be seated on the plastic trim at the bottom edge of the windshield.
Keeping the screwdriver in the slot of the driver's side wiper arm, angle the end of the arm enough to allow you to fully seat it back onto the knurled shaft, while aligning the wiper blade with the plastic stop at the bottom of the driver's side of your windshield.
I would keep the screwdriver in and keep it angled enough to keep the arm fully seated while you run the nut down finger tight. This will keep the arm from moving up off of the shaft. Final tighten it and then test it. You should be good to go. The plastic cap on the end of the arm just snaps on over the nut.
You just have to remember that the knurled part of the shaft is tapered, and the metal on the arm is a little on the soft side, so you can strip the grooves out very easily. Keeping the arm held down tightly in place while you're re-installing and tightening the nut should definitely help you.
