Just curiosity ~ What is this wire for?

Not important since it came from the factory like this, but I've always wondered what this red wire with a connector on it is for. It comes out of the wire bundle that goes to the firewall right underneath the driver side wiper. I can't think of any option I don't have that it could be for.

It's connected to the fuel pump. When that wire has +12v, the fuel pump should be running.

Funny, I've been wondering about that for 22 yrs, but not enough to actually ask anyone....lol (of course, didn't know about this forum before either)
I'm learning so much here I wish I'd found this place a long time ago.
