I got a small chance of getting a 89 GTU with a bad 2.1L mpi engine in it. Would it be hard or possible to transfer my 96 base 3100SFI into it? or would it be too much work? Just wanted opinions.

for that application its the same as swapping in a 3400.  Search for 3400 swap and you should find all the info you need.
