May not be worth fixing, but...

Ok, here's the deal: I got a 1988 2.8 auto. First of all, the tach reads more than double what it should. Second, one of the cylinders seems to not be firing properly. The spark plug sparks, but I think the fuel injector is bad, because the performance is in no way affected when the plug is taken out. Also, even when I floor it, it's like normal acceleration in any other car. I think the unburnt fuel may also be going to the cats, because the exhaust smells really bad. Anyone know what's up with this thing?

your ignition module sounds like it is going bad--I would check that first

Turns out it was the ignition coils.
