All 2.3L quad 4's made in 1991 came with a double roller timing chain.

92's have the non roller. The timing chain housing is thinner I think. I have had no problems with the non roller.

Make sure you follow your service manuals instructions or you might bend th valves. That's it...

Get a Haynes and follow it to the letter. Make sure that before you remove the chain, when you turn the engine to top dead centre you put the pins in the intake and exhaust cogs like it says. If you don't, your timing will be screwed and so will your engine once you try to start it. Give yourself atleast a whole weekend, including Friday night, and take it slow. Make sure you change your engine oil when you are done, crap can get into the pan when the T/C cover is off.

Try turning the engine over by hand first. Makes it harder to bend the valves if you hit them.

I think 90 and most 91's have the double roller chain.

allright, I bought the roller chain, tensioners, guides, and the
front cover gasket set, now I just need to make the time to do it. Man that stuff is expensive, I should stick to the v6's the engines I do know.

Don't stick to v6's. The quad 4 is a very simple motor once you learn how it works (ignition, fuel injection, and mechanically). It'll be worth it in the long run. You take care of it, and it'll take care of you.

Make sure you check the cogs for wear, two at the top (intake and exhaust), one at the bottome (crankshaft) and one near the bottom on the left (water pump).
