well i did one on my GTZ i have to say it is not really a fun project but all you will need is a 8mm and i believe a 7mm socket along with a screw driver or so. Give yourself some time just in case along with that check you heater lines if they are bad right now is a good time to replace them. Good news is that a heater core can be had for about 30 bucks so it wont break the bank.

And aftermarket heater cores are all metal. The stock has plastic tubes. So after you fix it once, you never have to fix again!

I think it would be harder to do one if you had an automatic tranny and if you are changing your heater core you might as well just put new rubber hoses on it too.

well i got a new heater core put in (i didnt do it my dad didnt let me) and i think i may still smell antifreeze dont know yet. today is the first day ive driven it in 3 weeks so, it might jsut have to work its way out of the new system. but i was told that the intake gasket goes on these motors and i hope thats not the case
