95 beretta 3400 swap
95 beretta 3400 swap
I've got a 95 beretta 3100 and the motor is about to go. I found an 05 impala 3400 motor to swap in but I'm not sure if it would work. I'm guessing I would need to convert to OBD2 to make it work in which case I would need the harness and computer and maf? Please let me know what I need to make this work.

No, you can drop in a 3400 on a OBDI ecm and run it. Just swap over the sensors from the 95 3100 to the 3400 so your plugs will all line up and work.
Other than that if you look at 3x00swap.com it should provide you with enough info on how to do this.

Re: 95 beretta 3400 swap
Other than swapping a few sensors there are just a couple small issues you need to take care of.
The 3100 oil pan has a low oil sensor and the 3400 pan does not, you can swap pans or just leave the sensor unplugged and pull the warning light bulb in the dash.
The 3400 does not have a spot in the rear cylinder head for your temp sensor for your gauge. You can leave it unplugged and have no gauge, lengthen the wire and install it in the drain plug in the back of the 3400 block, or convert the wiring to a 3-pin sensor in the intake manifold. I had two new 3-pin sensors crap out on me, so I installed the stock 1-pin sensor in the block.
The 3400 has a timing cover boss you need to grind off for belt clearance.
You need to take apart the linkage on the 3100 throttle body and swap it to the 3400 throttle body so the cables will hook up.
You will want to swap the oil filter adapter from your 3100 to the 3400.
You also need to remove the upper intake manifold and fuel rail to swap injectors - keep your 3100 injectors. When I pulled my 3100 out I left the fuel lines, rails and injectors assembled and just moved them to the side.
That's all I can think of off the top of my head, but as you can see it's pretty easy.
