1993 Chevy Beretta for parts or ?

Hi folks! I have a 1993 Beretta that is still in great running shape and body-wise is in great condition. I bought it from my in-laws in 1999 when it had 8K on it, and had been stored in their garage. Well, here I am, 12 years later, and my trusty Beretta has 197K on it. It still runs fine and has been pretty trustworthy on my 100 mile a day commute, but its' time to start looking for a new car.

Problem is, I think it's a waste taking it to the yard. Like I said, no rust, and other than a torn seat back, no damage. There is a crease on the lower drivers door from someone who takes too wide turns in parking lots. It has power windows, power doors, an automatic and a six cylinder.

If you'd like me to email you some pictures please drop me an email @ cage@mchsi.com.

Thanks, and great forum BTW!

Nice, strange color, but I like it. I would like to see this car sold as is.

What are you going by? just the hubcaps? Only definate details would be seeing the engine and also the rear fillers... solid or clear.

Right from the Bnet Model info webpage...

1993 Base.

Looks just like my old base, same color....white pinstripe and everything. I miss it. :(

Didn't '93's have the "3.1 MPFI" badge on the fender?

EDIT: Nevermind, I see the '93 in the pic that Jon posted doesn't have the badge.

EDIT #2: How much are you asking for it? Where are you located?

I live 10 miles south of the Minneapolis metro area in Minnesota. I was thinking somewhere in the $ 500.00-600.00 range. When I find a replacement car, I'll post it on craigslist too. I was just thinking if someone was looking for some replacement steel or a good working tranny or other parts, it might be a good find for someone. I was hoping it was of some value to someone who likes the older Beretta's.

To me, it's not so much about how much I can make, but getting it in the hands of someone who needs some parts!

So it runs well enough to be your daily driver and you only want $500? That's a hell of a deal.

Well, yes and no. Short answer is yes, I'm still commuting in it 100 miles a day.

Long story-I took it into a local shop because it was shimmying. They told me the front struts and mounts were bad. Hmm.... I checked my sales slips and discovered I'd replaced them in November 2008. I went back to O'Rielly and they warrantied the parts 100%, so I went back to the service station and asked them it they'd put the parts in, labor only. They said o.k., so I gave them the work. They installed them and three days later I noticed a grinding noise from the front end. I took it back to the shop and the guy told me they could hear the noise, but weren't sure what it was, and if it continued, they would have to check it out. I let it go for two weeks and it kept making noise and started shimmying again, so I called the owner and told him that we need to get it fixed, and asked him what could have happened. He said the strut bearings were going out since they were disturbed. I told him the bearings were included in the strut mount kit and he said they weren't. I showed him the receipt from O'Rielly's, and a print out of the parts indicating they did in fact include the bearings. He kept to his "no bearings" story so I told him we need to get them fixed, and asked him what he was going to charge to install the bearings. He said he'd do it for nothing, so I said o.k., and off to O'Rielly's I go for yest another set of strut mount kits with bearings. $ 120.00 later (kits), I picked it up yesterday after they installed them and guess what? Making still more noise! I was so PO'd when I got down the block I figured I better think this through before I do or say something foolish. Odd thing is, the noise I'm getting after the last trip to the garage doesn't sound like bearings, it sounds more like rubber friction instead of metal on metal.

I've put struts in before and for the life of me can't figure out how they can screw it up not once, but twice! Is it possible the rubber mounts need to seat or something, which could possibly be what I'm hearing now? It drives fine with no wobble, but I'm concerned that a couple weeks down the road the shimmy will be back.

Any thoughts on this would be sincerely appreciated BTW!!!!!

So, tomorrow I'm going to go back to the shop and see what yarn they'll spin this time. I'm not going to let them try to get it right a third time! When I posted it, I assumed all was well and repaired. It's in great shape but I wouldn't try to sell it to anyone without letting them know the entire story.

I'm honestly not sure how to proceed.......

yes. The first time you could tell it was the strut bearings. This time, there suspect, but it sounds more like rubber if that makes any sense?

I think it was the rubber mounts making the squeaking noise. I lubed them up with some silicone spray and gone! Only for a day though. Next day they were back but are getting to be less after I drove it for 1/2 hour. Maybe as it warms up they'll disappear!
