Whats the deal with these fuel doors on our cars? i've seen so many with hangin fuel doors. i hit a bump today at the gas station, and when i got out the fuel door was as limp as a wet noodle. wtf? What is wearing out? the hinge? or where it mounts inside the quarter?

Most of them rust out. You must replace the whole thing. You can keep the door though.

Im with money pit beretta....when i bought my beretta the fuel door hinge was in two pieces. Went to the yard and found one like new on a corsica (the only corsica that even had one), they charged me $5.

LOL @ scannerman

It must be an east coast thing, cause every beretta/corsica i have seen out west here does not suffer from this problem. Mine on my car is still like new after 21 years :D

likewise. every Beretta I see on the street or at the yards has a perfectly healthy and erect fuel door.

Well hence the fact that things rust out here I guess you could say thats a very good assumption.

Mine never reached the "limp" stage, but it was flexing. It got to the point where I was constantly adjusting the fit. The hinge had developed cracks in the bend.

So I bought one from Mike, cleaned and repainted it and poof. Problem solved.

mine was sagging a little at first, but i guess i hit that pothole just right to break the rusty hinge.
