I need to find out what gearbox is in my car and what type a pulled gearbox is so I can cables for my car and start getting parts together for a rebuild. my car is an 88 so I think it's a getrag but I am not sure, my car was built in 1987 as an 88. the pulled Gearbox is out of a 1989 GT. No SPID label, and the parts guys at my dealership said they cant get part breakdowns that far back. How do I find out?

You have the 2.8? Trannies should be a bolt in swap from 88 to 89.

Is your car a V6? I'm not sure about the 4 bangers but all the Manual V6 gearboxes from 87-93 are Getrags and should be interchangeable. Actually that trans should bolt on to the 2.8, 3.1, 3100, 3400, and 3500 motors.

Right, it's a 2.8, and I will be putting it against a 3400/3500 engine. but I thought there was an Isuzu trans that was very similar to the Getrag that was put in around the 88/89 time period. I looked up parts one day for the shift cables and there was a vin break point for the cables, but it didn't tell me which trans I had. Also I need to know because I am looking at an EP locker.

yea, the Isuzu trannies were for the 2.0 and 2.2 4 bangers. the V6's only got Getrags.

Sadly no Beretta for the commute. I used to drive to Roch everyday to MCC in my Beretta.
