Cylinder Select Error

Either i need better mechanics or i'm just the worst with cars.   Okay, my 87 2.8 bluetta off and on misses. The only code i'm getting is cylinder select error (which doesn't help much). I swapped out the ignition mod (which my mechanic said it prob was) and it did nothing. I had tested the mod before i put it in also. I had my mechanic look at it for a couple hours and he found nothing wrong. He went through fuel, air leaks, compression, spark, all the plugs, wires etc were new. every sensor was reading correctly. I need help. I don't want this to end up like my beater. Its just been sitting in the driveway rusting away cause no mechanic (in 3 shops!!!!) can find the problem. Should i just give up and buy something brand new with a warrenty or attempt to fix it? I gotta drive to work and have no option of walking or car pooling. HELP PLeAE!

Maybe you have a slight leak in one of your intake manifold gaskets.

I don't remeber the number of the code, but the equis obd1&2 reader pulled up that code, and only that. When my mechanic pulled up codes, he found map/mass and other wierd things, that were brand new (those just turned out to be a ground) How would i go abouts findin out if my intake is leaking? we changed all the gaskets in the engine (except the head) and the only thing i can find that leaks is a itty bitty tiny oil leak on the pan. nothing i'm worried about. i have sprayed the engine with carb cleaner to see if it would suck some in and rev up, which ususally would indicate a leak, but as far as i can tell, its leak free.

WEll, I figured it out!!!! It was the prom chip all along. it was throwing completely random codes all the time that fixin the problems never helped. called up a place in nebraska that had one left (with my matching #) and now there are 9 left in the country. stupid discontinued parts. Well, its going great now!
