First off, I applogize if this topic has been brought up repeatedly, i did searches before writing this, and only saw one thread mentioning such a thing.  Next, I appologize for low post count, I hate to seem like the guy who signs up just to pick your brains and never shows up again.  I've read this board since gettin my beretta in april 2001, and havent had much to contribute since, being a college student, I have only the money to have removed intake baffles and tubing to edit my intake to a more direct route.

anyway now that my life story is over... my car: 95 2.2L base auto.  My idea: engine swap an ECOTEC 2.2L auto or 2.4L auto into my car, not so much for performance, but reliability reasons.  With current price of gas, I'd like a 4 Cyl daily driver, because im considering getting a second car for "performance" sometime later.  my 2.2L is nearly shot, it has 113k miles and I've replaced the cylinder head myself this passing winter because I cracked the head after overheating.

What sort of possibilities and headeaches am I looking at.? I'm sure i have the room, but what about tranny? engine mounts, suspension...

if youve been around that long you should remember dave doing this a few years back.  Im not sure if he was done yet but he did have it mounted and was working on re-pining the harness

Yep, the twin-cam base lives and it even drives.  I rode in it last week.  There's still a few issues getting some things to work right, namely the knock sensor (this is because it's a '01 engine) and getting past the pass-lock (would be easier if it were a '97-'98, then the PCM could be reprogrammed).  Also getting the A/C to work right as well, the N-Bodies used a strange setup which uses the instrument cluster as a makeshift BCM, so it controls the A/C and such.

I remember somebody many moons ago doing the ecotec swap from j-body.org to a sunfire and it worked. Im pretty sure the 94-96 2.2's have same motor mounts as the ecotecs

Where you get into the issues with the Ecotec swap is the integration of the various computers and/or modules in the car with the PCM.  That is, unless you do custom programming.  I don't know how much freedom HPTuners for the Ecotec gives you with the PCM.
