You don't need to swap the tranny or wiring that's why the 3400 is a popular swap for those with tired old 3100s.

If you have a Z26 already, then swapping the transmision won't give you any benefit. Actually you have the 4T60E and most 3400 equiped cars have the 4T45E, meaning your transmision has a higher torque rating and is stronger.
Save yourself some time and work (not having to mess with CV axels, etc)
If you are wanting lower gearing for more peformance, it'd be easier to just make more HP for more performance. I know the 2nd gear in our transmisions kind of sucks, but with added power, 2nd gear can be quite fun belive it or not. My 2nd gear isn't so bad now when it can't downshift to 1st, and my only "real" mods where resosnator delete, ultraflo muffler, and K&N air filter. Everythign else is stock. A 3400 or a hopped up 3400 would make a way bigger difference.

Go to the forum and read up on the 3.73 FDR swap.
Add a Limited Slip diff and that will certainly get your attention.
