Hi, I have a 1990 base beretta, . i love this slow *** car, but i am looking to  upgrade performance. I hsee everyone is talking about a 3800 swap. would this fit into a 90 base 4 banger? What kind of HP could i excpet? is it possible to mod the engine to churn out 400+ hp ?

Hey Jeremy,

With modification to the car, the 3800 will fit in any Beretta.  You can expect 200-205hp from a naturally aspirated 3800 and 240-260hp from a supercharged 3800 (depending on year).  The engine can be modified to produce over 500 hp and 600 lb/ft torque.  A 3800 swap is a pretty involved project so if you're looking for something simpler, go for a 3400.  See the topics on swaps on this board for more info.

It really would not matter what Beretta you have to pack a 3800 in.  You'll end up cutting that base beretta up just like a GTU-GTZ to make it fit.

Thanks for the info,
So my best bet would be a 3800?
What mods would i need to make to genrate over 500hp?
What year should i look at for a 3800?
What about the tranny, wiring harness, etc?

i dont know anything about engines

You'd need a powertunner, and knowledge to tune the motor so you don't get knock retard and end up blowing your pistons to peices. You'd increase boost or go with a turbo. There are cams for them, headers, all kinds of stuff. check out clubgp.com and you can get an idea of where people take the 3800 supercharged.

97-2003 L67 supercharged has 240hp.
2004+ has a more efficeint blower, 260hp but has electronic throttle and you'd probably have to retrofit injectors and computer unless you wanted to keep the electric throttle/etc. You could try to fit the trans it comes with or get one from a beretta or other car that has a 4T60-E. Keep in mind if you mod the motor and tune it so it doesn't blow up, the transmision will be the first thing to go...

If you don't know anything about engines then you need to learn first otherwise you'll get no where fast....

Issac, What about the electric throttle, on the 2004+ is it a pain in the ***?

Which cars contain the  97-2003 l67 supercharged 3800 out of the factory?

Drive by wire SUCKS in my opinion.  I feel it is just another thing to govern for cars.
It is not hard to replace, but it could get expensive to mod.

GTP's have them from factory..
SSEI's do also.
Buick Regal GS I believe also.

Only 94-96s had the 4t60E in them.
