What are the differences between the heads on a 3100 and a 3400?
Are the D port heads or the 3rd gen heads the same as the 3400 heads?
Is the lower intake better on the 3400 and could someone show me pics?
Will the 3400 top intake fit the lower 3100 intake?

Thanks for any help

Short version: 94-99 3100 heads have smaller intake valves, and early ones don't have roller rockers. 2000+ 3100 heads are same as 3400 heads, larger intake valves and roller fulcrum rockers.

Are the D port heads or the 3rd gen heads the same as the 3400 heads?
3100/3400 are gen3. All have D shaped exhaust ports.

Is the lower intake better on the 3400 and could someone show me pics?
3400 is the same as a 2000+ 3100. MUCH larger ports. 94-99 3100 have smaller intake manifolds.

Will the 3400 top intake fit the lower 3100 intake?
Only if the 3100 lower is a 2000+.

Bascially the 2000+ 3100 is the same as a 3400 except the bore is smaller. The 2000+ has the stuff the 3400 has so it makes 10 more or so HP over the small port/small valve 3100 94-99.

You can swap heads on up on your 3100 with 3400/2000+ 3100 stuff for an increase in power. Use 3100 headgaskets.

If you just swap the lower and upper intake manifolds, you will need to grind on the lower intake and the rockers to clearance them, other wise it will hit and bind on the intake manifold and collapse your lifters. If you had 96+ 3100 it would have roller rockers and not have this issue. I'm keeping my heads and grinding to clearance. I want to swap to the 3400/2000+ 3100 heads and then I'd have no clearance issues, and more power, but the cost of gaskets, and heads and checking them, and bolts, etc would end up costing as much as a complete 3400 motor.....

That should help, need more info check the links above. I just felt like posting a lot today!

So the 1996 will have roller rockers so I would be safe in doing the swap?

Some 96's have the roller rockers.  My moms 96 corsica did not, but, sometimes even if the engine doesn't have the roller rockers it may have the notches in the head to fit them.  Scannermans 95 Z on bstuff had these notches so using the new rockers was possible by removing the old studs and pushrod guides.
