Well the time has come. I bought a minivan. Said I never would Drive one so....

.. I'm ripping the entire motor and wire harness to replace my (3rd Motor) 94 Quad 4 I think the 94 was rated 150-160 hp.
I found this on the
3400 Aluminum Head OHV 60° V6

1996-04? 3400 SFI V6

170-185hp @ 4800-5200 rpm
200-210tq @ 4000 rpm
9.5:1 Compression
FWD, distributor shaft driven oil pump, DIS, hydraulic roller camshaft, roller rocker arms

Now my Project begins.
Remove Knocking Q4 from the ol' GTZ. $100.00
Remove All parts needed from Van. $2200.00
Spending the summer cleaning and installing 3400.
Priceless!
lol
I'll keep yaz posted. Any of you 3400 swapers have any advice for me it would be greatly appreciated.

Big Question on my mind now is Can I adapt the 5 spd to the 3400?

you need to swap the bellhousing area of the case with one for a v6

You're going to have issues converting a 90-91 GTZ from a Q4 to a 3400.  It might require some welding of the mounts, etc..  I'm not sure what's there and what's not on those, just that they used a completely different mount setup than all the other models.

The trans can be split in half and have the bellhousing side swapped over.  I did this on my car once to use a 2.0 Turbo trans on it.

installing a 3400 is significantly easier in a 92+

Well I see many problems with this swap....

#1, you are going from a 90 Q4 to a V-6. You will need an ENTIRE parts car. You need the ECU, complete wiring harness, sensors, etc.

#2 to get the Q4 trans to mount up to a 3400 you need the bellhousing from a 5 speed v-6, auto wont work

#3 you will need to weld in new motor mounts for the engine to go in cause it's TOTALLY different.

You are much better off getting a 5 speed v6 beretta and doing the swap on that. The easiest year for a 3400 swap would be a 96, damn near plug and play, and you get the OBDII tunability.

I suggest you check out www.3400swap.com

I have the entire
donor on the road now( 99 Pontiac Montana). I will drive till I get the kinks worked out.
Motor mounts I went through the same issue on the 3800 sc install. No biggie.
I will probably run the attached 4 spd auto till I find a suitable 5 speed swap.
My worrie right now is the 5 speed. I travel 60 miles round trip daily. I could use Some fuel economy.lol.

go find a 96 beretta in the junk yard and grind the motor mounts off that car. then take your meassurements and weld them onto your car. probably the easiest way to do it.

You would only need the drivers side mount actually, And they're located in the same spot regardless of what engine in all the 92+ cars.

The front 1 near the radiator huh. I know the rear 1 has to go. I need to fab a mount on the to rad support. The 3400 has same Mounts as the 3800 i think.

I just pulled the 94 Q$ (knocking) out.

I've been told the gear ratios are different in the quad 4 manuals... so personally I would just get a getrag out of a cavi or beretta that had a 2.8 infront of it... Well, actually I would just get a beretta that has a v6 5 speed in it. You will run into a lot of problems... Asked around before buying my v6 5 speed and it's not worth the effort. Was told engine/interior harness both need to be changed, the ratios in the trans will need to be changed, etc. Not worth it if you ask me, just get 1 with a 2.8 in it and do the easy swap over.

You would ditch the one in the rear on the passenger side and the one in the front center.  You would need to add in the passenger side 92+ mount (you could do the older style, which may bolt right in, but you'd need a custom bracket to go on the engine)

Here's how a 92-93 3.1 mounts up.

Almost Sold it.
I have decided to take another chance with it. Take my time and have it ready for spring/summer next year.

Right now I'm workin on clearing some land (7.5 acres).
The Burrito is in the Garage on jack stands awaiting its final decision. It looks pathetic right now.

I'll get piks of the donor tomarrow. In the mean time I am going to lok for the other 3400 Beretta Installers. Pick there brains.
