90 GTZ Q4 to 3400

Ok fellaz.
This swap has turned into a nightmare for me. I took the 3400 and OBDII Harness and computers. So far no problems here.
The 1st issue I ran into is the Bellhousing to the tranny.(Different Tranny Fixed it)
The 2nd issue is the Front Motor Mount.
Image
This is the mount from an 89 3.1 Auto Beretta. The #2 part is the problem. It doent match up to the 99 3400 Block (4).
This next picture is of the Rear Mounts from the same Beretta.
Image
This fits fine in every way.
Keep in mind this Started out as a GTZ with the Quad 4.
The Tranny mount (To motor on passenger side) Does NOT match up at all.
This picture is from the 2.2 Manual Beretta.
Image

The shaft (not CV) that goes to the passenger side CV, The supprt that mounts to the motor. I am having a hard time finding this shaft/bearing for the 6 cyl.
For those who have done the 3400 to 5 speed swap.
I could really use some help on this. I dont want to make a mount and end up with a mis-alligned trans shaft that will wear stuff sooner than normal.

IIRC, the jack shaft mount people tend to just use washers to space the mount to align it.  Dont hold me to it but I think that's what they generally do.

You may want to turn to Geoff or another member that have done the 3400/5 speed swap.

The 3400 swap in a 87-91 is WAY different than a 92-96.

you'd need something like this (it may be available other places, but this gets the idea)

thanks guys. I ended up making my own similar to the Jbody one.
I will be ordering the J-Body mount tho.
The front mount was pretty straight forward where as the output shaft bearing support/housing that bolts to the motor is different on the Q4 than it is on the 3x00.
So again I made my own to match up to the 3400.
pictures soon.

The other solution to the "intermediate" shaft bracket for the 3400 would be to find a 5 speed V6 GT (90+ IIRC).  It uses the same shaft, but uses the braket with the correct mounting for the 3400.  For my brother's car (94 Z26, 3400, 5 speed) we got all of the ancillary parts (shafts, mounts etc.) from a '92 3.1 GT from a junk yard.  Good luck!

That's great news.
Did I miss a post on all the info of this 3400? What did it come out of and how many miles are on it? Was it out of your van? Please tell me it has "3400 SFI" on the upper intake.

So you did a motor swap and your power window started to work???

But congrats on putting a V6 in a quad 4 car

"OBDII what harness did you use? From what car?" = 99 Grand Am SE 100k
I am still in the process of putting it all back together. So Nevermind the mess.
Figured out the GA has a "Roll-Over" sensor at the base of the Steering column.
ImageImage
This fall the motor will come back out for a rebuild. Just didnt wanna deal during the OBDII swap.
Below is the Original Beretta Wire Harness. Dash removed. Carpets still in. I'll get to the Carpet issue in a few minutes.
ImageImage
Today my mission is to wire up the Rear of the car. I dont think I like the FP there.
"So you did a motor swap and your power window started to work???" Bit more than Plug and Play!
Image
To the carpet issue. The padding was SOAKED! Even after being in the Garage for 9-10 months.
When I removed the Beretta Harness I found this on the Passenger side. I will assume the Cancer is the leak.
ImageImage
This little mistake here looks like a Jack Stand improperly placed (Driver Side). I banged it out and plan to spot weld it shut.
Image
Which led to the soaked carpets and this CANCER!

So on with today I go. I will get more pictures today.

Wow, lots of work there. Did you have to change the throttle cable? Any big plans for the engine or is it going to be just a rebuild? Did you check an see if the GA's cruise control cable would work on the Beretta? I ask because I was looking a 2000 GP the other day and the CC cable looked like it could work.

Grand Am harness, man that's insaine... Oh well I guess that works for you, but I would have just tried to find a 96 and done a factory OBDII swap. Much easier in my mind.

3X00, You couldnt be more right. This is the second time dealing with a wire harness swap like this and I think it will be the Last! I figured GA would make for an easier layout. I was wrong. I spent a good part of the evening lastnight extending the Engine Harness/Sensors to allow for a cleaner engine bay. No Relay Center or PCM in the bay.

MPB, The throttle cable that was on the GTZ was a stock Q4 cable and was too short. I was able to scab the GA cable in until I can get the right one for the Beretta. The CC cable will probably work. I dont have CC attached to the car at the moment. For this year I am thinking run the stock motor maybe toss a turbo on it, But naa I think I will shoot for the 3800 again next year. This time make it a 5 speed.

I have a few GA parts (not many) if any needs em'.

I took it down the road today in Sad Shape LOL.
Tensioner is froze up and clutch seems to be squeeling. Unless thats the belt or PS pump.
I bought new Flywheel and reused the Q4 disk and PP.
Dirty Ol' Burrito!
