I'd be more concerned that he knows how the tuning software works and what he can scan.

He will not be using my DHP tuner, it will be dyno tuned. As I do not feel comfortable doing it myself with the DHP

Re: 1995 Turbo'd 3500 Z
Then what does he plan on using to tune it? Only DHP and HP tuners will program the ECU... and only HPTuners will work if you have a 97 Monte Carlo Bin file on it.
When you get a dyno tune they use the software you have to tune your ECU... or at least they should. The only benefit is they can put the engine at multiple load levels to simulate different driving conditions and see how the car responds and make changes as well as see how much the power changes.

Not sure what he will be able to do... iirc hptuners can't fully overwrite an ecu and they only support the 97 Monte Carlo.

By the sounds of it, the 'tuner' is learning as a novice to your ems... IMHO, you'd be just as better off learning the software and getting the knowledge of how to tune yourself while utilizing some sorta message board or car forum to help ya iron out the rough areas you dont understand/have troubles with.

Re: 1995 Turbo'd 3500 Z
I'll clarify a few things... He probably has a 97 ECU in it, Service code should end with 058 that is the same ECU used on the Venture van and the Monte Carlo... 3400 and 3100 respectively. With DHP you could flash that ECU to have ANY of the three calibrations on it. With HPTuners I believe you can only read and write the calibration info and not overwrite the full OSID like you can do with DHP. This is where I say you may be screwed until you learn how to use DHP. You would have to flash a Monte OSID file to the ECU before he could even do anything. Also it does not have a beretta code on it, he may have copied over some of the Diagnostic stuff to replicate what the beretta had so he didn't get oddball SES codes but you can't flash a 96 bin file to a 97 ecu, one is 256k the other is 512k
NOW the next biggest myth is you need a laptop with XP.... I have a brand new XPS15 (ok well 1yr old) laptop with W7 Pro 64bit on it and I bought that laptop with the intentions to use it as my personal device and keep my old 5100 for tuning... well it was way quicker and the battery lasted much longer so it has become my new tuning laptop. Running DHP on W7 is no issue at all. You just need to install the prerequisites.

Re: 1995 Turbo'd 3500 Z
HPTuners gives the option of write calibration or write entire. Some vehicles only support a write entire. The catch with overwriting a entire PCM is the VIN licensing. You have to license every vehicle or group which you tune with HPTuners. You can change the VIN in a tune file, but only to one that it deems acceptable for that particular OSID. So, if you want to overwrite the OSID with a different one and need to use a different VIN, it will cost you 4 credits ($200) to get that done instead of 2 ($100) unless you have the whole vehicle group license.3X00-Modified wrote:With HPTuners I believe you can only read and write the calibration info and not overwrite the full OSID like you can do with DHP. ALSO, if you flash your PCM with a W-Body tune and assign your beretta VIN with another tuner which allows that, more than likely you would get a VIN/OS mismatch with HPTuners when you read the PCM.

HMm i had a friend use HPtuners on my old Ion and only worked with a write entire..
Id prefer to do my own tuning, but as i said, i just dont wanna mess anything up, not 100% what im looking at..

All DHP installer files are avilable on 60*v6 on the Articles page, then Computers, there is a DHP Powrtuner section.
