My 1989 Chevrolet Beretta GTU
My 1989 Chevrolet Beretta GTU
On October 25th 2015 I picked up a 1989 gtu manual 5 speed. many of you know my 1990 indy. I bought this gtu for cheap the kid replaced the clutch and the car would no longer shift in or out of gear. got the transmission torn out and taken apart and may have found the problem. this car will be getting a 34/3500 swap this winter. cant wait.
Transmission out
this was stopping it from shifting
needed the snap ring and everything put back on.

sadly it did not come with the indy/gtu rims. but I want to find some. main goal is getting it driving. it also needs a differential bearing and race because they have a lot of wear.

The differential in the 87-89 transmissions is supposedly a weak point. The pinion shaft is definitely smaller than the newer ones.

Sweet find!
From the 100' glance, it appears to be fairly clean as far as body rust goes. Especially by the fuel door arch and near the rocker cladding. How's the underbody?

It's got some rust on the underbody.. I can try to get some pics of under the car. The worse spot ive seen is the trunk lid. $450 is what I paid.

Oh yeah, well not too much more. Best to get them cheap, unlike I did. Lets just say 2k+ and about the same in repairs/parts.

Lots of work there, but nothing that bad. Thinking that you must have done a good job of looking it all over.

Yes. Getting the engine pulled out. Weekends are the only days I can work on it hopefully will have it out tomorrow.

Will see more on how it looks I plan on redoing brakes and lines and need to get a new ebrake cable. I also wanna do the rear disc brakes to better handle the power of the 34/3500.
