Now I Know Why...
Now I Know Why...
...I like the rear end styling of the Corsica so much (not mine in the pic):
Cuz this plane jane ol' car...

Looks like a little like this certain turbocharged Buick...

And now I know what i can do with the rear of my lil' car
I always wanted to do a tiny, NASCAR style lip spoiler on the rear and now I know what it will look like, with all those GNX's out there.
It almost makes me want to RWD convert my Corsica, seeing as how it's got enough room underneath to do it. I'll probably have to convert to V6 to fit the engine longitudinally though
I think a coilover RWD setup would make for an amazing little bastard to drive around in.

Re: Now I Know Why...
Yeah, I never noticed it before either, so I had to post this immediately LOL
I always loved the GNX (gotta love a car they sold only in black, until people asked for more colours LOL) and always had a close spot in my heart for the box Caprices of the late 70's-early 90's:

But it never clicked with me, that the Corsica was following that styling theme. It really explains why it's been really growing on me. I keep seeing this 94 Beretta around town, which I can't help but watch drive by, and would really love to see a corsica rear end swap done. I know the modifications would probably be extensive, but it would look like a little GNX now that I see it.

Whoa, bit too much work to put Beretta tails on a Corsy. Did you ever see what Mr Beefy did to his? I really liked that.
Oh man Koots I sure did love my old 77 Impala's rear end. Damn I miss that car.

Corsica looks very much like european Ford Sierra. Specially the euro-spec.

Even I mix them up sometimes at traffic

I don't know...the Beretta tail light and filler panel section is one of the best styling cues on the car.

Aeroform used to have a small lip spoiler for the corsi.....the key word is used to.And now I know what i can do with the rear of my lil' car I always wanted to do a tiny, NASCAR style lip spoiler on the rear and now I know what it will look like, with all those GNX's out there.

I like the fact that they were naturally tinted from the factory.I don't know...the Beretta tail light and filler panel section is one of the best styling cues on the car.
Re: Now I Know Why...
Just some info.
You are referring to Grand Nationals of which they made about 27,000 in 1987. The GNX was a special car. It was a modified Grand National and they only did 547 of those in 1987. Buick made the T-Type which had the same engine as a Grand National but you get get that car in colors.
T-Types had no spoilers.
You could also order a regular Buick Regal "limited" with a bench seat but with a Grand National engine, talk about a sleeper!

I was mostly referring to the GNX, as it was the all-black rare beast that has been one of my favorite cars of all time.jskiguy wrote:Just some info.

I just couldn't find a proper pic showing exactly what I wanted to show. I could barely find a Corsica pic from the rear, let alone one that was black (like my own Corsica). The pics had to do for the time being, just to show the overall design characteristics that I wanted to point out.
Thanks for the info though, one can never have enough IMO.
Re: Now I Know Why...
...Wow, there really is a similarity there, I never noticed it either. I like the rare hatch-back Corsica a lot, and would buy one of those if a clean V-6 5-speed one came my way. I never understood why GM didn't make a hatch-back version of the Beretta, especially since it was supposedly designed to replace the Camaro, which at that time was a hatchback...

Re: Now I Know Why...
After spending a bunch of time, back a few years ago, in the Import/Sport Compact world, I don't see why I didn't see more Beretta's out there. I remember seeing a few people mention them, but even I knew very little about them, even as a lifelong GM fan.
Knowing and seeing what I've seen now, I can tell you that an GTZ would have made for an amazing Import killer. Especially one with all the FE3 suspension goodies you can get, including the cavalier tower/tie-bars. I would love a hatchback Beretta GTZ to hunt down and embarrass some of that elitist crowd I remember being involved with.

Re: Now I Know Why...
I'm still playing around with the Indys' (the Indys were, I believe, the only Berettas to get FE7 AND a V-6 -please someone with a V-6/auto GTZ correct me if I am wrong, I know this has come up before, scd88ga where are you?) FE7 'Active' suspension vs FE3/Z51 piggy-back/hybrid on my GTU vs F40 'Heavy Duty' suspension on the '90 turbo vs the later FE3 on my '95 Z-26 (so far as I recall it -which is pretty good). I still think the Z51 in '88 was the ultimate Beretta suspension, but it was that little bit heavier, too.Koots wrote:Knowing and seeing what I've seen now, I can tell you that an GTZ would have made for an amazing Import killer. I've thought more than once about making a hatchback Beretta, and my old Z-26 was damaged very badly in the back-end, so maybe I should consider something there. The 5-door Corsicas are too rare to even consider using parts from one of those, but there are plenty of other hatchbacks that are roughly the same width as a Beretta, so maybe I could find something that would look right...
