Dead soul returns
For those that don’t venture over to the bstuff boards, I figured I would post some of my info on my new trans project. Some may know I'm currently running a 3400 with 100 shot of nitrous, weak link... transmission... it has 60k on a rebuild but the valve body has probably around 200+ on it and the TCC stuff is starting to act up.
Here is my list of upgrades to the trans, which should be happening next week hopefully.
Reman Valve body
Sonnax valves, 1-2, 2-3, 3-4, 4-3, 3-2, High ratio modulator valve, oversized TCC valve, PWM valve.
Pump rebuild parts, side pivot pin, vanes, other gaskets.
New valve body spacer plate
New 35/35 gear combo, new chain
Trans go shift correction kit, *applying only certain fixes...
Full Transtar transmission overhaul kit.
Already have hardened reverse shell
New 1-2 roller sprag
PDQ HD 2300 Stall converter
EP street version LSD Kit, Didn’t have 3.33 core dif so he sent me parts to put in my current dif, so downtime is minimized.
What do you guys think???
I also invested in two "new" cardone axles, vs reman ones from everywhere else, these are noted to have larger dia shafts, and redesigned outer joints... I'm on my third set of axles since my 3400 top end, and then 3400 swap... top end swap was 100k ago, was only on the car for 70k... the other 30k is the new 3400 with that on the bottle at times.
yeah it has also been a while since I posted over here, But I have been a member here since 2002... wow time fly's

Make sure to take lots of pictures if you would, since we are considering doing the 4T60 in our TGP, seeing the guts of a FWD trans here would definitely help us have an idea. Definitely a much different beast than RWD ones, imagine that....
One more thing Jon, did you happen to know the price difference between "Stage 1" and "Stage 2" LSDs?

Um, I don't think there was one. I think the price consists mostly of the assy, and machine time for the spiders, and carrier.
I could be wrong though, But he should be back next week sometime so give him a ring and see what he says, he may also be back up to his original 599 summer price. But who knows, it is only spring.
And yes pics will be taken

IIRC, it was an extra $100 USD.

Not sure about the stall converter, the GP guys had some issues with an aftermarket brand, not sure if it was PDQ or what I don't remember.
Very interesting. I remeber when you joined. Time has flown!
Surprised you only got 15.7 NA w/3400. On a good day I should dip into the 15's with my stock 3100!! (since I did a 16.0 first time ever to a track, in august, with a 15" sub in the back!!)
Interesting to see a Auto build up instead of a 5speed swap... I'd personally rather do the 5speed swap then open up the inside of our auto!! eeek!

So would I but I have no 5-speed donors in my area... so my resources are limited... unfortunately.
And there is  no price difference... or maybe he just sent me the wrong one because I have the race version I guess... I was just notified about that today.  2 yellow and 3 orange springs is race version 5 yellows is the street version.
15.7, I dont think the car was ever running right N/A, It didnt seem to have the pull it usually does when I was at the track... why I don't know but I hope to be in the 14's with this tranny N/A

Mine right now runs great, and I just know it would benefit greatly from exhaust and a CAI. I noticed a ton of difference getting rid of the resonator. I guess it made a lot of turbulance. Now on the highway in 4th with it locked up I can press the gas and it accelerates without unlocking or downshifting. Even up hills!! Pretty big difference. 2nd gear is also less anemic when it can't downshift to first. I'm pretty happy with my stock 3100, it surprises me sometimes. My friend with a 96 corsica was side by side me and tried racing me once he punched it and then I did and left him like he was standing still instantly, so perhaps mine is a freak?! His car engine is doing fine, LIM gasket replaced/etc. I know his tranny is in better shape than mine. Well know mines good since I added the seal conditioner.
Anywho, (insert smiley eating popcorn icon) I'll be watching the thread!

High Stall/Built Auto > 5spd once you get into higher power/torque....Have fun shifting a 5spd with 100 shot of Nitrous. Its just like the 3.1 Turbo/5spd Turbo Grand Prix...1st and 2nd gear are basically useless.
Since Jon there does a lot of dragging and going fast, the loss of the gears is made up by the tractions he won't lose in 2nd gear mainly, plus if he stalls it high enough he can get a pretty good launch, similar to that you would get with a 5spd, except he doesn't have to worry about bog or to much slippage/burning of the clutch. Plus, all that time spent shifting that is off the throttle.
I like his idea of sticking with an auto actually. I guess I'm just not a 5spd bandwagon member?

Yes someone who realizes the useless ness of a 5-speed with a 100 shot of nitrous... haha
today is the day, I'll update with pics later tonight of the carnage of pulling it and possibly cracking the case open tonight. YAHOO!!

Good luck with that and keep us posted on results. I'm glad to see someone doing the auto build up too.
I managed to get a 15.4 with my 3100 auto at one point, that was with ice on the intake.

Pic will be up later today...
Kinda lunched the diff, and splines on the 4 gear input shaft look worn... but the diff issue spread alluminum throughout the case which made my regulator valve stick, my TCC valve stick and who knows what else.
