CAR NOT STARTING AFTER RUNNING FOR A WHILE

Post by wayne1971 »

Will someone please lead me in the right direction. I have A 91 GTZ auto w/3.1. After running the car for a while it will shut off at idle or if I take a short trip and cut the car off it will not sart up right away. Once it finally starts, its smoking black and back firing like crazy. Today I was on the freeway and mashed it to the floor and it started to run good - then it started popping and smoking black and then it finally shut down....once I let it sit for a few miutes it started up and ran fine.  The car has been sitting for 3 yrs.  I really need help with this issue.

Do you happen to know the condition of your coils?
Is your CAT glowing cherry hot?

Check that all out then if your coils check out good, move onto exhaust.  I think the coils should read 4~Ohms.

This is a V-6 car so the injectors should be in the 12-13 ohm range.

Crank position sensor.  Guaranteed that will fix your problem.  Back side of block, not the one on the pully, it's in the middle of the block on the back side.
