Re: The trip into the "big leagues"
Here is my favorite part.. the car back on its wheels. I seriously like that I can do what I really want with the car now the the Quad is gone and I dont have to worry about what I am doing to a rare car..
It was a long day by the time I got to this point.. I really wish I would have taken the 5 minutes and put my headlights back in but ah well.

I missed a few important parts that I will post later.. one is how we re-enforced the upper radiator support for the mount and all that. Ask any questions about the swap and I will answer them. It runs and drives at the moment and is going to the exhaust shop on Friday. I have videos of it running will post later also.

Awesome work, Shawn. That car is looking great. I put some EL glow-gauges in my '95 Z-26 back when, they had a silver face with the glow-through blue like yours, and since the car was Black Rose Metallic (aka dirt-common Z-26 dark plum color
), I painted the needles translucent purple, they ended up looking like grape Jolly Ranchers! I finished mine off with a stainless-steel bezel, like your CF one. Made a world of difference in how the car's interior looked (to me, at least), so I can imagine how proud you are of yours, especially with the custom 'ZR6', that is some nice work, man. It is the little touches that make a big project finished right.

Re: The trip into the "big leagues"
Thanks! Sounds like your gauges complimented your color pretty well. Good idea with the purple! I forgot to add that I painted my needles Victory Red (a color available on the C6 Corvette lol)Rettax3 wrote:Awesome work, Shawn. That car is looking great. I got some crazy updates coming for the interior still! My custom
Shift plate with the C6 Corvette center console trim piece is done thanks to Charles he did an awesome job on it. I will be posting pics of that this weekend.

You are welcome -credit where credit is due...SummitBalt08 wrote:Thanks!

Yeah, I had plans back then to repaint that car either silver or a warmer 'titanium' color -either way those silver gauge-faces with the stainless surrounds would have fit it very nicely... But the needles would need a repaint again. I was thinking along the lines of a cornflower blue, and having 'Z-26' decals reprinted to match.

Re: The trip into the "big leagues"
Here are the pics from strengthening the upper radiator support.. Charles Larcom did an awesome job helping me out with this part of the project.
Used a upper radiator support I cut out from a 96 base at the junkyard for reference..

Then got the part ready to go..

Split the spot welds

Fit in and welded

Then I dont have anymore pics from that lol It works perfectly though to keep the radiator support sturdy.

Re: The trip into the "big leagues"update pg 12! 6spd swap d
What next? Friday morning the exhaust is getting done but after that..
Here is the shift plate Charles knocked out for me, the Corvette center console trim piece fits perfect!!

I am going to get that covered in Carbon Fiber.. then cut and modify the G6 shift lever to fit the ZR1 shift knob so the boot, knob and trim piece will all be like factory Corvette. Also going to put my headunit back in and get some other pieces done in CF at the same time. Cant wait to get the ZR1 knob on though!!

Nice....
You forgot to throw the car in reverse - then throw it in first w/out stopping....
Is that on stock tune?

That is a tune I flashed to the ECU with 3500 tables in it, with the running video's he's posting I'm almost embarrassed to say I flashed that ecu... They keep posting videos of it running with no o2 sensor in the exhaust and I don't even know if it's hooked up, so the car is in limp mode needless to say and that's why it's running like garbage... I guess the tune is only as good as the install and right now it's not complete and shouldn't be running.

Jon what is the big deal? The car has been under knife for a LONG time.. I just wanted a video of it moving on its own..3X00-Modified wrote:That is a tune I flashed to the ECU with 3500 tables in it, with the running video's he's posting I'm almost embarrassed to say I flashed that ecu... The O2 sensor was in for the running video but wasnt for the driving video.. Since its a manual there is NO WAY of fitting the O2 sensor in the manifold without the steering rack hitting it. It has a bad Throttle Position sensor that I have replaced now.
I will delete the video my bad....
Maybe I shouldnt have wasted my time updating this thread.

Re: The trip into the "big leagues"update pg 12! 6spd swap d
Shaun you need to understand that yes I know it's been under the knife for a long time but it's NOT GOOD for an engine to be started without a maf properly piped when hooked up or a O2 sensor disconnected BOTH of those are used 100% to determine if the engine is running properly to the ecu...
I know all of these actions were not decided by you either and I'm well aware of the limitation of getting the O2 in with a manual, SO in my mind if you can't get it in or setup properly then don't try to start it yet OR drive it till its setup properly, it's not worth rushing because you can damage something or you just get a bunch of negative responses and then I or you could end up getting questioned or ragged on because it wont run and it's a tune I did.
Its awesome that your getting it done but when you post up stuff like this it makes others question the abilities of those who are working on your car because they are half assing it or trying to rush it just to prove something.
First ever run of my hybrid engine was completely installed lacking a full exhaust... That ensured a good start up video to illustrate it's running. After that I had to replace the radiator after finding a leak and then just get the exhaust made for it.

We are not half assing it and we are not trying to prove anything. A lot of work was put into the car and all we did was drive it forward 10 feet then back 10 feet. Its nice to know everything works after all the work put into it.3X00-Modified wrote:

On that note, I am done updating this thread. Bnet seems to be dead.

Hell I'm just getting back to this topic. I think the radiator support was a damn good idea. Can you still use the cover with that?

I will keep updating here.. Jon just had me irritated with "being ashamed" to do the tuning on my Z. Wtf. I paid him to do that. paying customer. so what if I let the damn car run for 3 and a half minutes without an exhaust. I can't do my own exhaust in my garage like he can. Guess what? I have to start again without the exhaust on tomorrow morning to back it out of the garage so the tow can take it to the shop that's doing my exhaust.
