I have access to a cheap 3100 out of a 96 lumina and would like to know what's the difference between it and a 95?

Could i use my 95 intake and the 96 bottem with no problems or would i have to switch more?

the 96 lumina is obd 2 you may have some harnesses that don't match up so you may have to take more stuff from the lumina than you think, make sure you have access to the lumina, its the little things that add up to make it more expensive

btw... in my 96 beretta the fuel pump assembly has an extra wire that my 95 didn't have... may be something to think about

Get wiring diagrams for both and compare those for differences in other components.  Same with the vacuum diagrams.  Other parts may be the same or not (like brackets), check the part numbers to find out, or better yet, check an interchange book for the parts attached to the engine.  Make sure you do the bearings too... while the engine is out it is good insurance to prevent having to pull it again.

I just checked the casting number on the block and it has the year code R.  Looked it up in the book and its a 94.  So I was pumped to see that.

Let me know if that sounds right.

Going take the old wire brush to it tomorrow and clean it up and give it a fresh coat of paint, then swapping over what needs to be swapped and hopefully u[ and running by Saturday.

While you are painting get some Glyptal, it is a special paint (Eastwood carries it) and paint the inside of the block and heads with it.  It is acid and oil resistant and provides great oil drainback.  I have used it on 900+ HP dragster engines and 600+ HP Street small blocks and it does a great job keeping the engine alive.

an engine is an engine.  the 3100 blocks are all the same for the most part.  in order to get a obd2 3100 to work in your obd1.5 car all you do is switch over the sensors and plug everything back in.  no wiring harness issues or anything.  thats why you can run a 3400 on stock everything.  i have an 01 3400 in my 95 and all i did was switch my 3100 sensors over to the 3400.  same idea as what you're trying to do plus i think the only real diff from a 95 to a 96 3100 is the knock sensor, upper O2 sensor, and the purge valve thingy underneath the coils.

Edit: posting in 5 month old threads is awesome
