ABS & Air Bag Sensor
ABS & Air Bag Sensor
All righty, here's the problems -
1. ABS light won't go off and there's little to no resistance in the pedal
2. The Air bag light is on and won't shut off
Bit of info - the motor is from a Z26 and I'm working on changing the gauge cluster over (from a base to full Z instruments)
For the Air bag - I checked to ensure it was hooked up and ran the line line to see if there was any obvious damage - nothing.
The ABS - we tried to bleed the brakes - found a lot in the rear and in the rear hydrlic assembly - but hell - I don't want to take it to a dealer to have them do it!
Any help is appreciated
Thanks in advance!

I can't really help with the ABS problem, but may be able to help with the airbag problem. The first thing you should do is check the airbag system for codes by turning the ignition on and waiting for the ABS light to finish flashing (7 to 9 times). Then jumper the A and K terminals of the ALDL using a paperclip or wire. The picture below is of the ALDL (sorry it's not too clear ). Insert one end of the paperclip into the last hole on the right in the top row, and the 4th hole from the left in the bottom row.
Watch the ABS light. It should flash code 12 once (one flash, pause, two flashes) which is normal, then it will flash each trouble code once. After all of the codes have been displayed, the sequence will restart. Post here with the result.

I checked intogetting the codes through the paperclip method, but nope - it's a 94 w/ the OBD - II which requires the friggin scan tool to get the codes. Since I can't move the car for a few weeks, I'll have to find someone with it. I'll update asap.

So you swapped in the OBDII computer along with the engine?

Its a 94-95 PCM with the OBDII style plug.  DO NOT DO THE SHORT TRICK...it does not work on that car.  He needs to scan the car for some of those problems.  The airbag problem could be a few things, either messed up clock spring wire diconnect airbag computer or cut wire somewhere.  Does the ABS light come on right away or after car is started to roll?
Did the problems happen when you went from base cluster to a full cluster?

No computers have been swapped yet. The motor swap involved same motor and same year cars. The only thing is that the motor and tranny from the Z are now in a base.
I'll be swapping the whole dash in a week or so (gauge clusters, computer included).
The lights are on as soon as you turn the key.

as soon as the key is on. mmm
the only way to bleed the master or ABS unit is to open the valves with a scan tool. other than that you may have a bad wheel sensor but that would cause the light to go on while driving... mm. my ABS light will go on from time to time when i start the car, but then goes off if i shut it off and restart it. i have no idea why. i have never check my ecu for codes though, plus its a 93.
sorry can't help much

OK, here's the newest news on this project.
Air bag - I went through and cleaned up all the motor bay grounds, now the light works the way it should.
ABS - I've gone through and bled everything, now when the car starts, the light is out. When I get up to 40mph the thing trips on.
Another issue is the stumbling, sometimes it runs smooth, there there are the times it stumbles thoughout acceleration. It really sucks at 55, with the tires and alignment out of wack at the moment, the car vibrates like hell and then if you step on the gas, it stumbles along.
Thanks for the help guys. I believe there is vaccuum leak along with a wheel sensor out of whack.
As for the airbag, well, I plan on putting in an aftermarket steering wheel by the end of summer anyway..
