Re: The Derretta, 1994 base with some attitude.
I'm still horrible at updating this. I'm also convinced this car needs a name change to Christine.
I let the car sit for a month out at my parents while I used my Caprice as a rolling project, to work out some bugs.
I finally went to pick the car back up and had it idling to warm up, when it died on it's own, no warning. I found my ignition module was cracked and replaced that, but to no avail. I warrantied out my IAC, and tested my MAP and TPS sensors which both are working properly. I couldn't find any vacuum leaks, so today I removed the catch can thinking it may have been the issue, along with replacing my FPR with a new unit. Still stalling in park. I'm at a loss on this one!

I did do something that worked at least! I picked up a pair of red Pilot 1156 LED's for $5, the car only uses one on the third brake light, but at that price who cares!

I made my 6x9 bezels match finally! This is what happens when you find color matching interior paint on clearance, lol.

Re: The Derretta, 1994 base with some attitude.
I unplugged my IAC valve today so I could keep the car running and do a voltage test on the coolant temp sensor.
It started out at about 3.2 volts, and by the time I decided to walk away it was at around 1 volt, I walked back to the car about a minute later, and it was back up to 3 volts.
Looks like I'll be ordering a new temp sensor, lol.
And then, the last wash of the year...

Re: The Derretta, 1994 base with some attitude.
New temp sensor installed a few weeks back, fixed the problem! Did a retune, now the car just fires up and dies. Giving it gas doesn't even help. The tuner doesn't even recognize the ECM now either.
I did find out I had an old repo box under the dash, so I tore that out but to no avail. I'm wondering if a connection may have been temporarily lost during the tuning that may have made the chip in the ECM fail...
Here's the old repo box, made in 1994, haha.

I wonder if every car bought on loan is given a repo box.
Or do they only get the box after the first repossession?

I think it's more of a buy here pay here, where if you don't pay they shut the car off? I mean, sounds right, lol.GT_Indy wrote:I wonder if every car bought on loan is given a repo box.

Yes it's generally buy here pay here places, I've installed these before. It was quite funny when didn't have the funds long ago I had transmission work done at aamco and didn't have the money, so how I learned to take the thing off my car to know how to install it too helped me when working at friends garage

They do seem easy enough to install based on the ease of removal!MY91GT(Z) wrote:Yes it's generally buy here pay here places, I've installed these before. I ordered another ECM off of eBay, it arrived today but with it being in the teens as a high, and my garage being an ice box... I'll install it and program it another day!
I sold the old poly dash cover too. I'll be replacing it with a velour one by Spring.

Tomorrow the new calendar will be turned back to January, but I sure do like this view on my wall!

Re: The Derretta, 1994 base with some attitude.
I got my new ECM in, and the new one is tuneable! Problem solved? Nope!
I found my external crank trigger wasn't even close to being lined up, so I took it to my work and taught it a lesson with a vice and a big hammer. Problem solved? Nope!
So far the MAP, IAC, TPS, coolant temp, crank sensor, and ignition module are all passing. Running out of options now...

Are you positive the new ECM is good? Can't find any issues with the wiring?

Re: RE: Re: The Derretta, 1994 base with some attitude.
Jon mentioned on Facebook that it may be a corrupt tune file that's killing the ECM's, it makes sense. I put the tune in the new ECM, then can't connect anymore...woody90gtz wrote:Are you positive the new ECM is good? Can't find any issues with the wiring?
I ordered another ECM, I should be seeing it in a week. I deleted the tune files I was using, and modified the stock tune with the basics. Injector flowrate, EGR activation RPM, governor and rev limiter.
